Best of the Times

Description

Approx. 40 items: letters, memos and reports related to the "Alternative Delivery System." This plan involved free distribution, in parts of the San Gabriel Valley, of a special editorial product called "The Best of the Times." This section consisted of recent Times articles and plenty of ads. It was a way of jump-starting a stagnant advertising and circulation zone. LAT canceled the program in early 1981 after about five months. It was not working as hoped.

Copies of bulletin on tightening security at TMS and checking of employee ID cards. Copies of bulletin on upcoming LAT Recycling and Conservation Fair. Copies of bulletin on TM scholarship winners for 1991. Copies of bulletin on Federal Express pick-ups at Times Mirror Square - times, locations, etc. Copies of bulletin on alternative methods of transportation and copies of a booklet, "Leave your car at home - Employee Transportation Program." Copies of bulletin on "Fiesta Broadway," a major street fair which involved extensive street closures in downtown L.A., and which posed challenges for LAT employees working that weekend.
