Description: Two items of correspondence in this folder regarding a presentation to Harrison Chandler who was concerned that The Times was not responsive to the competition of television news. A note to Otis Chandler from Freddie Miller and a memo from Otis Chandler to Norman Chandler, Franklin D. Murphy, Albert V. Casey, Robert F. Erburu, and Dennis Stanfill. Also in this folder are two copies of "The Times vs. Television: Is The Times Obsolete?" and also a spreadsheet and two graphs.

Holman, Publisher of The Wall Street Transcript, in which he notifies Otis Chandler that his speech was selected to be reprinted; a two page list of questions from H.N. Whitney, Goadby & Company; a page from the Standard Listed Stock Reports about Times Mirror; a note of handwritten notes; a copy of a note from Robert Erburu addressing two questions and answers; five pages of possible questions that may be asked at the NYSSA; two copies of a two page outline of Otis Chandler's presentation; a letter from Dennis C. Stanfill, Vice President, Finance and Treasurer of Times Mirror, to James F. Chambers, Jr., President and Publisher of The Times Herald Printing Co., regarding questions possibly asked about the loss of cigarette advertising; a memo from Dennis C. Stanfill regarding the appearance of Alvah Chapman and Lee Hill of Knight Newspapers attendance at the meeting; six attached items which included a memo to Freddie Miller from Jacquiline Harris regarding the attached documents, a program outline, Franklin D. Murphy's presentation outline, and a three page outline of Albert V. Casey's presentation; a page listing the 1968 Newspaper Business Total Figures; two pieces of correspondence between Otis Chandler and Joan E. Berger, of Equity Research Associates, Inc., in which a report she is forwarding about the Los Angeles Times and Otis Chandler responds with a thank you letter; two pieces of correspondence between Shaker A. Khayatt, H.N. Whitney, Goadby & Company, and Otis Chandler, in which Khayatt praises and thanks Chandler and Chandler responds also with praises; a two page copy of Standard & Poor's Outlook of Opportunities in Newspaper Stocks; a two page reprint of the speech from The Wall Street Transcript; four pages of statistics about the advertising, newsprint consumption and and circulation; and four legal size pages of double-sided handwritten notes with a note from Dennis C. Stanfill attached.

Two copies of a speech given by Otis Chandler at the Times Mirror's Annual Meeting on May 28, 1969. Also in this folder are three additional pages to the speech which were not delivered; a memo from Robert l. Flannes, reporting minority employment; a copy of the invitation and registration card with a note attached from Norma A Dugan to Freddie Miller; a letter from Eugene C. Pulliam, Publisher of the Phoenix Republic and Gazette, regarding the timeliness of the speech topic; a memo from Freddie Miller to Paul Bertness regarding the format of the invitation, which includes two attached examples; seven pages of possible questions from stockholders; two pages of excerpts from the speech; two pieces of correspondence between Otis Chandler and Harry J. Reed, Editor of The Pontiac Press, in which Reed request a copy of the speech and Chandler sends him two versions of the speech; a copy of the agenda; a three page story about Sam Yorty; a note from Dennis C. Stanfill regarding questions about the profit from the Sun Company sale; a letter from Robert F. Erburu, Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Times Mirror, notifying Otis Chandler of the meeting and also attaches a list of who will be attending the meeting and luncheon; a memo with a six page attachment from Bert R. Tiffany to Otis Chandler, Robert D. Nelson and Vance Stickell, regarding the circulation figures; a memo from Paul N. Bertness to Dr. Franklin D. Murphy, in which he attaches three documents: auditorium seating chard, program and estimated timing; and diagram of the exhibit area; a six page document listing questions that may be asked; a copy of the thirteen page copy of the meeting's script; a memo from Robert C. Lobdell to Nick Williams and James Bassett, which has attached a Summons and Complaint, regarding the case of Harry Schackman Complaint for Libel.

Two copies of a speech given by Otis Chandler at the Times Mirror Company Annual Meeting on May 10, 1966. One of the copies has handwritten notes. Other items in this folder include two invitations, one sent out by Norman Chandler and the other by Otis Chandler; a two page check list for the meeting; an itinerary for the meeting; a note card with the agenda of the meeting printed on it; a fifty-three page three ring bound summary of the meeting; a seven page document entitled "Opening of the Meeting"; two copies of a memo from Freddie Miller to Walter Africa regarding the Annual Meeting preparations; a three page memo from Albert V. Casey to Otis Chandler regarding the Annual Meeting and the Executive Conference which includes the two day schedule; a one page fact sheet for Norman Chandler with a photocopy of an article attached; a nine page fact sheet for Otis Chandler; a memo from Freddie Miller to Otis Booth regarding the Annual Meeting Preparation; a memo from Otis Chandler to Nick Williams regarding the Times Mirror Company Executive Conference; six letters and three memos sent out by Otis Chandler requesting attendance to the Annual Meeting; a page of thirteen questions of possible floor questions asked of Otis Chandler; a two page outline of the Report to Directors to be given by Otis Chandler; a one page summary of what was covered in last year's speech; the first page of Otis Chandler's speech; and a four page transcript of the article the Los Angeles Times printed about the Annual Meeting, attached to it is a copy of the newspaper article.

A twenty-six page transcript of a KCET television interview Otis Chandler gave on the Michael Jackson Show March 23, 1978. Other items in this folder include a thank you letter from Mark Waxman, Executive Producer of the Michael Jackson show and Program Director at KCET; a management bulletin providing information about the when the show will be airing; two newspaper clippings; thirty-five letters of correspondence between Otis Chandler and varies individuals that wrote in regarding a quote that was taken out of context; six items consisting of four letters of correspondence between Otis Chandler, Mrs. Kurt Steinmeier [Elizabeth Steinmeier], and Anthony Day, regarding the editorial about free speech in Skokie; two items consisting of a a memo and an attached sheet, regarding the CBS Broadcast; a copy of the page from the transcript that includes the quote that was taken out of context; forty-three items of correspondence praising Otis Chandler's appearance on the show.
