    One drawing book entitled Self-Instructing Drawing Lessons, for the Little Folks, by John D. F. Brooks, Boston, 1868. This book is 42 unnumbered pages in length and contains numerous line-drawings. Each drawing features a step-by-step number guide for creating a finished drawing. The subjects of these drawings include: a horse, boats, garden tools and equipment, body parts and small scenes. The front cover contains a large circular engraving of three children in a run-down kitchen, one of whom draws while the other two watch. The inside of the front cover contains textual instructions, and the inside of the back cover features other (completed) images. The back cover is an advertisement for Frost & Adams, "importers and dealers in artists' materials". "A.E.C." is written in ms., in ink, at the top of the front cover.

This book is comprised of 14 pages (including the insides of the front and back covers) of either step-by-step drawing instructions for line drawing or colored and uncolored images for coloring, copying, or tracing. The front cover is an image of a clown drawing a picture of a dog. "No. 3500" is printed in the lower left-hand corner of the front cover. "$1.00" (price) is written in ms. in the upper right-hand corner of the first page. Some of the illustrations in the book have been colored in with crayon.

    One drawing book entitled Krüsi's Drawing: Synthetic Series, New series, No. 2, published by D. Appleton & Co., New York, copyright 1878. This book consists of 16 pages of geometric designs, which emphasize the practice of lines and shapes. Suggestions to Teachers are printed on the inside of the front cover, and specifics of line drawing are outlined on the inside of the back cover. On each page are the illustrations and space intended for copying. The front cover is decoratively bordered; the back cover is a publisher's advertisement for Model Copy-Books in six numbers (penmanship studies), offered by D. Appleton & Co. Laid inside the book are three sheets of paper, two of which are blank. The third contains several original illustrations. A blue ownership stamp of I.A. Dexter is on the front cover.

    One drawing book entitled An Easy Course of Landscape Drawing Lessons, No. 1, by H. A. Harper, published by George Rowney and Company, London, ca. 1875?. This drawing book is comprised of 4 lithograph plates of houses in outline style, numbered 1-4. The imprint of each reads: "Printed and Published by G. Rowney & Co. 51 Rathbone Place, London." ; each plate is signed "H.A.H." The inside of the front cover is a manufacturer's advertisement for drawing pencils; the inside of the back cover is an advertisement for chalks, crayons, drawing paper and tints. Publisher's advertisements for drawing books are on the back cover. "Oxford: Printed by E.W. Morris, Jun." is printed on the bottom of the back cover.

    One manufacturer's advertisement/drawing book entitled The Calumet Prize Drawing Book, No. 1, published by Calumet Baking Powder Company, Chicago, ca. 1902. This booklet contains 6 leaves of black and white lithograph illustrations, each covered by a leaf of tracing paper. The inside of the front cover, as well as the recto of the first illustration, contain advertisements for Calumet Baking Powder. Two illustrated advertising rhymes are found on the verso of the last leaf and on the inside of the back cover. Instructions for use of this drawing book are found on the inside of the front cover. Some of the illustrations for copying are: a rhinoceros, a train, tulips and a can of Calumet Baking Powder. The front cover is a chromolithograph illustration of children dressed for a parade. "M. Umbdenstock & Co." (presumably the lithographer) is printed at the bottom of the inside of the back cover.

    One drawing book entitled Drawing Book of Butterflies, published by (compliments of) L.M. Brock & Co., Lynn, Massachusetts, ca. 1910. This drawing book is a promotional piece for Mrs. Dinsmore's Cough and Croup Balsam. It contains 8 pages of black and white images of butterflies and tracing paper in front of each page, for copying. The front and back covers are chromolithographs; the front cover features several butterflies and paint brushes, the back cover image is a little girl in a pink hat, standing next to a vase of roses. The inside front and back cover feature promotional and advertising text. Some of the images have been traced onto the tracing paper, and some of the traced and original images have been colored in with crayons.
