One drawing book entitled Drawing Horses, by Victor Perard, published by Pitman Publishing Corporation, New York and Chicago, copyright 1944. This book is 64 unnumbered pages in length, and provides step-by-step instructions for drawing horses and similar animals, such as mules and donkeys. All of the images are in black and white, and most pages contain at least some instructional text. The front cover is printed in brown on green paper; it features several images below the title from within the book. The imagery on the back cover is a duplicate of the front cover. "$1.00" is printed in the lower right-hand corner of the front and back covers. The inside of the front cover is blank; the inside of the back cover is a publisher's advertisement for "Pitman Art Series by Victor Perard." Laid inside the front cover are two newspaper clippings, dated 1951 and 1947 respectively.

The cover title reads: Drawing and Tracing Book: Boats and Houses. This book is comprised of 8 lithograph plates of images for drawing and tracing. The front and back covers are chromolithographs; the front cover features a bespectacled little girl, seated at a table, painting in a coloring book. The back cover reads: "First lessons in drawing for children" and has a decorative, floral design below the words. The publisher's statement is in the lower left-hand corner of the front cover: "Copyright 1898, McLoughlin Bros. New York." The images inside the book are the same as those in Box 33, env. 03. These images have been traced in pencil and colored in with crayons. "Helen A. Bailey" is written in ms., in pencil, across the bottom of the front cover.

One book entitled The Teachers' Companion to the American Drawing-Slates: No. 1.--Free-Hand Drawing, Elementary and Advanced, by Walter Smith, published by Noyes, Holmes, and Company, Boston, 1872. On the verso of the title page is printed: "Riverside, Cambridge: Electrotyped and Printed by H.O. Houghton and Company." This booklet is 52 numbered pages in length, and features white-on-black drawing card reproductions as illustrations. Following an 8-page introduction, the book is divided into two sections, Free-hand Drawing, parts 1 and 2. Both sections include use of straight and curved lines. The insides of the front and back covers, as well as the back cover, are blank. "E.A.W." (previous owner) is written in ms., in pencil, in the upper right-hand corner of the front cover. "25-" (price) is written in ms., in pencil, in the upper right-hand corner of the front cover.

Little Folks' Painting and Drawing Book

One drawing/painting book, ca. 1905, entitled Little Folks' Painting and Drawing Book, published by McLoughlin Bros., New York. This book is 32 unnumbered pages in length and is comprised of chromolithograph and black and white lithographs in outline form for coloring. The front cover features an image of two children wrapping a gift box. "0701, McLoughlin Bros. N.Y." is printed in the lower left-hand corner beneath the image. The back cover is not illustrated, but the paper is decorated in a simple pattern. "Directions" are printed on the front pastedown, and the title page is illustrated with a black and white image of a boy painting a fence. All of the illustrations are of animals; some have been colored. A ms. inscription in ink is on the title page. "2.-" (price) is written in ms., in pencil, in the upper right-hand corner of the title page.

This coloring book is 28 unnumbered pages in length, and contains illustrations and rhymes for children. There are illustrations on the insides of the front and back covers as well. The front cover illustration is dated 1879. Several of the images have been colored in. "#56 $4.00" is written in ms., in pencil, in the upper right-hand corner of the front cover.

Little Darlings' Drawing Book

One drawing book entitled Little Darlings' Drawing Book, published by Raphael Tuck & Sons Ltd., London, ca. 1900. The chromolithograph image on the front cover shows a young girl, with a rabbit in her lap, drawing in a book; the lower-left corner bears the series title Father Tuck's Little Artists' Series. The back cover features a girl running next to a hoop. The company's trademark and "No. 3625" are in the lower left-hand corner above design and printing locations--England and Germany, respectively. The book has 16 pages of outline images, and tracing paper overlays. The images depict children at play, or are scenes from children's stories and are variously signed "MB", "EH". "M Bowley" or "Edith Taylor"; some are unsigned. Seven of the outline images have been filled in using colored pencils or crayons; others have been traced. Across the top of the front cover, the name "Miss Hazel Wheeler" has been written in pencil. Inside the front cover, also in pencil, is "Hazel Wheeler. Christmas 1904." On the back cover, in the upper right-hand corner, is a price sticker with "8--" written in ink.
