Description: One drawing book entitled Self-Instructing Drawing Lessons, for the Little Folks, by John D. F. Brooks, Boston, 1868. This book is 42 unnumbered pages in length and contains numerous line-drawings. Each drawing features a step-by-step number guide for creating a finished drawing. The subjects of these drawings include: a horse, boats, garden tools and equipment, body parts and small scenes. The front cover contains a large circular engraving of three children in a run-down kitchen, one of whom draws while the other two watch. The inside of the front cover contains textual instructions, and the inside of the back cover features other (completed) images. The back cover is an advertisement for Frost & Adams, "importers and dealers in artists' materials". "A.E.C." is written in ms., in ink, at the top of the front cover.

One drawing book entitled Drawing Horses, by Victor Perard, published by Pitman Publishing Corporation, New York and Chicago, copyright 1944. This book is 64 unnumbered pages in length, and provides step-by-step instructions for drawing horses and similar animals, such as mules and donkeys. All of the images are in black and white, and most pages contain at least some instructional text. The front cover is printed in brown on green paper; it features several images below the title from within the book. The imagery on the back cover is a duplicate of the front cover. "$1.00" is printed in the lower right-hand corner of the front and back covers. The inside of the front cover is blank; the inside of the back cover is a publisher's advertisement for "Pitman Art Series by Victor Perard." Laid inside the front cover are two newspaper clippings, dated 1951 and 1947 respectively.

One painting and drawing book entitled Little Folks' Painting and Drawing, published by Charles E. Graham & Co., New York, ca. 1900. The series title is 0701--Paint Book Series. The front cover of the book shows a little girl holding a palette of watercolors in one hand and a page of her paintings in the other. The back cover repeats the title of the book and features an image of two children asleep in a meadow and watched by four rabbits. The book contains twelve images, some printed in outline, others color printed to show color schemes. Most of the outlined images have been filled in with wax crayon. In the upper right-hand corner of the front cover in pencil is "50 [cents] 6448".

One manufacturer's advertisement/drawing book entitled "Satin Gloss" Drawing Book, for Little Folks, published by David S. Brown & Co., New York, ca. 1885. This 8-page booklet is a promotional piece for Satin Gloss soap and is comprised of 8 different lithograph advertising images, each with a sheet of tracing paper bound in. The covers are chromolithographs; the front cover features a little girl holding two rabbits; the back cover pictures two little girls, one of whom is whispering in the ear of the other. Each of the images for tracing are captioned with promotional phrases; an image of a horse-drawn cart is captioned "This is one of the trucks that delivers Satin Gloss Soap to your grocer." The insides of the front and back covers contain advertising text. Each of the images has been copied onto tracing paper.

One drawing/painting book, ca. 1905, entitled Little Folks' Painting and Drawing Book, published by McLoughlin Bros., New York. This book is 32 unnumbered pages in length and is comprised of chromolithograph and black and white lithographs in outline form for coloring. The front cover features an image of two children wrapping a gift box. "0701, McLoughlin Bros. N.Y." is printed in the lower left-hand corner beneath the image. The back cover is not illustrated, but the paper is decorated in a simple pattern. "Directions" are printed on the front pastedown, and the title page is illustrated with a black and white image of a boy painting a fence. All of the illustrations are of animals; some have been colored. A ms. inscription in ink is on the title page. "2.-" (price) is written in ms., in pencil, in the upper right-hand corner of the title page.

One drawing book entitled An Easy Course of Landscape Drawing Lessons, No. 1, by H. A. Harper, published by George Rowney and Company, London, ca. 1875?. This drawing book is comprised of 4 lithograph plates of houses in outline style, numbered 1-4. The imprint of each reads: "Printed and Published by G. Rowney & Co. 51 Rathbone Place, London." ; each plate is signed "H.A.H." The inside of the front cover is a manufacturer's advertisement for drawing pencils; the inside of the back cover is an advertisement for chalks, crayons, drawing paper and tints. Publisher's advertisements for drawing books are on the back cover. "Oxford: Printed by E.W. Morris, Jun." is printed on the bottom of the back cover.

This 16-page booklet is a promotional piece for Belding Bros. & Co.'s silk products as well as an instructional aid. Each page contains several white-on-black illustrations, designed to represent chalk drawings on a drawing slate. Above and below each illustrated page are advertising and promotional statements about Belding Brothers & Co.'s silk thread. The front cover is designed to look like a drawing slate, with the text written on the slate. The insides of the front and back covers are advertisements, as is the back cover. "Lillian Wright, Jan. 4, 1891, Ayer, Mass." is written in ms., in pencil, at the top of the inside front cover.
