Below the bas-relief is written: 3rd Michigan Inftry 3rd Brig. 1st Div. 3rd Corps. / Mustered in / at / Grand Rapids / Mich. / June 10th 1861. / Army Potomac / First Bull Run / to / Appomattox. Behind the monument to the let can be seen large coils of rope and a pry bar. At bottom of the photograph, above the signature on the car is printed: 1063 -- 3rd Michigan Inft. Monument. . Image of the monument to the 1st Michigan Infantry. The tall obelisk is adorned with carvings of two muskets, ammunition box, canteen and a forage cap. Betwen the stocks of the two muskets is carved: First / Mich. / Inf'ty. In the base of the monument is a badge with the seal for the State of Michigan.
