    Three copies of a speech entitled "Can We Believe Washington" given by Otis Chandler at the Distinguished Alumnus Lecture at Stanford University on March 4, 1968. Also included in this folder are two copies of Seminar, A Quarterly Review for Newspapermen, which reprinted the speech; a copy of the Stanford Alumni Almanac which includes a reprint of the speech; twenty-four original and photocopies of newspaper clippings about the speech; a three page tentative schedule; two copies of a two page tentative schedule revised on 2/16/68; a dinner guest list with hand writing on it; a memo from Jeff Littleboy, Associate Editor for News and Publication Service at Stanford University, asking for an advance copy of the speech; a thank you letter from Clifford F. Weigle and Freddie Miller, regarding the possibility of Otis Chandler holding seminars with students; three letters of correspondence, two are from Lyle L. Erb, editor of Seminar, in which he requests a copy of the speech and the other letter is a thank you letter, and the third letter is Freddie Miller responding and providing a copy of the speech; a memo from Robert C. Lobdell to Otis Chandler asking him is he is considering publishing his speech; three congratulatory letters; nine items of correspondence requesting copies of the speech, five letters are request, the other four of the letters are response letters attached to the request; a thank you letter from Ross Williams, an attorney, in regards to the receipt of a copy of the speech; a letter from Herbert Brucker, Director of Professional Journalism Fellowships at Stanford University, in regards to the speech topic and he also sends him a copy of an article; thirteen letters of correspondence between Otis Chandler, Freddie Miller and Lyle M. Nelson, Director of University Relations at Stanford University, regarding the details of the trip and the speech; and eight letters of correspondence to Otis Chandler, regarding the day of the speech and his responses to them.

    University of Missouri Honor Award Banquet

    Three copies of a speech given by Otis Chandler at the University of Missouri, upon receiving the Honor Award for Distinguished Service in Journalism, on May 9, 1969. One of the copies has attached a sheet of paper with hand written names and and the introduction to the speech. Also in this folder is a copy of the University of Missouri-Columbia Bulletin which features the awards; a copy of the weekly events booklet put out by the University of Missouri's School of Journalism; two copies of Seminar: A Quarterly Review for Newspapermen by Copley Newspapers, which includes a copy of the speech; two pieces of correspondence between Lee Hills of the Detroit Free Press and Otis Chandler, in which they copies of each other's speeches; a memo from Dan Moore to Donna Swayze regarding information about arrival times and accommodations; three congratulatory letters; a letter of praise from Fairfax M. Cone, a one-time medalist at the University of Missouri; two letters of correspondence between William B. Blankenburg, Professor at the University of Wisconsin and Freddie Miller, regarding information on the speech; two copies of a two page letter from Earl English, Dean of the School of Journalism at the University of Missouri, informing Otis Chandler that he has been selected this years honoree, attached to the original letter are three memos (two which duplicates) discussing the time schedule; a telegram from Earl English requesting a biography of Otis Chandler, a response letter from Freddie Miller is attached to the telegram; a telegram from Earl English requesting acknowledgment of the letter he sent informing Otis Chandler of being an honoree; two items of correspondence between Freddie Miller and Earl English in which they discuss copies of the speech being sent to the University; four letters of correspondence between Freddie Miller and Earl English in regards to a copy of the acceptance speech that is to be used in a bulletin, two of the letters have a copy of the acceptance speech attached; a letter from Robert M. White, II, Editor and Publisher of the Mexico Evening Ledger, in which he forwards to Otis Chandler a copy of the Montana Historical Society mailing and also commends him for a job well down; three items of correspondence, along with a copy two page copy of Otis Chandler's itinerary, between Freddie Miller and Robert M. White II regarding Otis Chandler's resume and the possible changes that need to be made to it; two letters of correspondence between Robert M. White II and Otis Chandler, in which one of the letters has attached a copy of a letter sent to Earl English and a copy of the Otis Chandler citation.

    Correspondence pertaining to a speech Otis Chandler gave at the Stanford University Alumni Roundtable on February 11, 1972. Items in this folder include a copy of The Stanford Alumni Almanac; a reprint of the Stanford Alumni Almanac; three items which include letter from Monitor Book Company, Inc., a tear sheet for the publication; and a leaflet about the publication. Seven pieces of correspondence which includes a congratulatory letter from Jack K. Horton, Chairman of the Board of Southern California Edison Company; a telegram from Ralph P. Davidson, Time, Inc. asking if he had any plans for dinner; a letter in which Otis Chandler responds that that he does, but will see him at the roundtable; a letter to Freddie Miller from Lyle M. Nelson, Chairman at Stanford University, confirming dinner plans; a note from Freddie Miller to Otis Chandler reminding him of the event; two letters from Della Van Heyst, Associate Director and Editor of Stanford Alumni Almanac, one letter is an invitation to participate and the other letters is confirmation letter.

    Three copies of a speech entitled "The Great Race: Survival" given by Otis Chandler at the San Jose State College Commencement on June 5, 1967. Items in this folder are a letter to Mrs. Murial K. Lorenz, Administrative Assistant to the President, San Jose State College, from Freddie Miller, regarding requested reprints; a memo from Otis Chandler to Art Seidenbaum, requesting ideas for speech; a thank you letter from Robert D. Clark, San Jose State, to Otis Chandler; a newspaper clipping from the San Jose Mercury regarding the speech; a letter, with an invitation attached, from George W. Milias, Chairman, California Legislature Assembly committee on State Personnel and Veterans Affairs, to Otis Chandler, sending his regrets on not being able to attend the reception in honor of Otis Chandler; a thank you letter from Mrs. Murial K. Lorenz, Administrative Assistant to the President, San Jose State College, to Freddie Miller, also discussing the reception honoring Otis Chandler; four letters stapled together of correspondence between Mrs. Murial K. Lorenz, Freddie Miller, Robert D. Clark, and Otis Chandler, regarding details about Otis Chandler's biographical information and statistics for academic regalia; a newspaper clipping from the Oakland Tribune announcing Otis Chandler's speech; and a memo from Freddie Miller to Irving Bengelsdorf regarding an article he wrote which is the basis of Otis Chandler's speech.
