    Three copies of a speech entitled "Can We Believe Washington" given by Otis Chandler at the Distinguished Alumnus Lecture at Stanford University on March 4, 1968. Also included in this folder are two copies of Seminar, A Quarterly Review for Newspapermen, which reprinted the speech; a copy of the Stanford Alumni Almanac which includes a reprint of the speech; twenty-four original and photocopies of newspaper clippings about the speech; a three page tentative schedule; two copies of a two page tentative schedule revised on 2/16/68; a dinner guest list with hand writing on it; a memo from Jeff Littleboy, Associate Editor for News and Publication Service at Stanford University, asking for an advance copy of the speech; a thank you letter from Clifford F. Weigle, Executive Head at Stanford University, thanking Otis Chandler for the visit, attached to the letter is the response letter from Otis Chandler; two letters of correspondence between Clifford F. Weigle and Freddie Miller, regarding the possibility of Otis Chandler holding seminars with students; three letters of correspondence, two are from Lyle L. Erb, editor of Seminar, in which he requests a copy of the speech and the other letter is a thank you letter, and the third letter is Freddie Miller responding and providing a copy of the speech; a memo from Robert C. Lobdell to Otis Chandler asking him is he is considering publishing his speech; three congratulatory letters; nine items of correspondence requesting copies of the speech, five letters are request, the other four of the letters are response letters attached to the request; a thank you letter from Ross Williams, an attorney, in regards to the receipt of a copy of the speech; a letter from Herbert Brucker, Director of Professional Journalism Fellowships at Stanford University, in regards to the speech topic and he also sends him a copy of an article; thirteen letters of correspondence between Otis Chandler, Freddie Miller and Lyle M. Nelson, Director of University Relations at Stanford University, regarding the details of the trip and the speech; and eight letters of correspondence to Otis Chandler, regarding the day of the speech and his responses to them.

    Editorial Awards Banquet

    Four copies of a speech given by Otis Chandler at the Editorial Awards Banquet on Friday, January 21, 1966. Three of the copies are typed. However one of them has hand written notes. The 4th copy is hand written. Other items in this folder include a list of awards and honors won in 1965 by Los Angeles Times Staffers; a memo from Freddie Miller to Otis Chandler regarding what kind of speech to give; a copy of the banquet's schedule, and a head table seating chart.

    Carr Van Anda Award Presentation

    A hand written copy of a speech Otis Chandler gave at the Carr Van Anda Awards on March 14, 1973. Other items in this folder include the award; a note from John R. Wilhelm, Dean of Ohio University College of Communications, in which he forwards a copy of the June 1, 1973 Ohio University College of Communication Commtel Newsletter; a Ohio University visitor questionnaire; a copy of the April 6, 1973 Ohio University College of Communication Commtel Newsletter; eight items of correspondence between Freddie Miller, Otis Chandler John R. Wilhelm, in which Chandler is informed of the award and the travel arrangements are discussed; a letter from John R. Wilhelm confirming the date and requesting a questionnaire to be filled out; a nine page copy of a speech by John H. Colburn, Editor and Publisher of the Wichita (Kansas) Eagle & Beacon; a letter from John R. Wilhelm in which he sends a copy of the student daily, The Post; and two newspaper clippings of articles written by Susan Reimer, which have a note from Freddie Miller attached to them in which Miller recommends to Otis Chandler to write a letter to Susan Reimer about irresponsible reporting. This is referring to the fact that Reimer stated in one of the articles that Chandler was a millionaire.

    Reiss-Davis Recognition Awards Dinner

    Three copies of a speech given by Otis Chandler at the Reiss-Davis Recognition Awards Dinner, hosted by the Reiss-Davis Child Guidance Clinic, on March 26, 1969. Also in this folder are two invitations to the event; a newspaper clipping dated 03/17/07 announcing the award; a memo from Dan Moore regarding a list of table guest; a letter from Miss Trude Feldman, on Sands of Los Angeles letterhead, along with an attached article from the Bnai Brith Messenger, also attached is a memo from Freddie Miller to Otis Chandler; two letters and a telegram sending their regrets in not being able to attend the dinner; a thank you letter from R. Stan Avery regarding the copies that were sent to him, attached to this letter is a memo from Freddie Miller to Otis Chandler; four congratulatory letters; thirty congratulatory letters and corresponding responses; a copy of a letter to Jackson Long, Regional Vice President of Sales and Service at United Air Lines, from Otis Chandler's Administrative Aide, in which several copies of the speech are being sent as requested; two thank you letters from Reiss-Davis Child Study Center, one having an attached response letter from Otis Chandler; a two page letter from Leonard S. Janofsky, of the Law Offices of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky, & Walker, to inform Chandler how impressed he was with the speech; and three letters responding to three letters received by Otis Chandler, in which he is informed that the Reiss-Davis Child Guidance Clinic is asking his friend to become sponsors. In the response letters, Chandler apologizes and informs his friends that he is not pleased with the way that this dinner is developing.

    A copy of a speech Otis Chandler gave at the Texaco Round Table on March 14, 1973. Attached to the speech is a memo from Freddie Miller which informs Otis Chandler of the activities of the day. Other items in this folder include a newspaper page; two thank you letters from Douglas D. Barman, Chairman at of The Texaco Round Table, one address to Freddie Miller and the other to Otis Chandler; a two page letter from L.R. Christy, Vice-Chairman of the Texaco Round Table, inviting Otis Chandler to speak.

    USC Journalism Award Banquet

    Two copies of Otis Chandler's acceptance speech given at the USC Journalism Awards Banquet on Tuesday, October 30, 1962. One of the copies is incomplete. Also included are newspaper clippings about the event, tickets and RSVP card, an invitation, a two page fact sheet, and three letters of correspondence between Otis Chandler and Russell E. Ward [First Vice President, USC Journalism Alumni Association], regarding nominations for the 1973 awards. Attached to these letters are tickets to the event and a list of past recipients.
