One drawing book/manufacturer's advertisement entitled The Singer Drawing Book for Young Artists, published by Singer Sewing Machine Co., copyright 1900. This promotional booklet is comprised of 8 pages of illustrations and 8 leaves of tracing paper, one over each page. The chromolithograph front cover shows a seated boy, writing at a table. The inside of the front cover advertises several different models of Singer sewing machines. "Copyright 1900 Singer Mfg. Co." is printed, in very light ink, at the bottom of the front cover.

Great Big Drawing and Tracing Book

One joint drawing and tracing book entitled Great Big Drawing and Tracing Book, published by McLoughlin Bros., Springfield, Massachusetts, ca. 1928. This book is comprised of 8 leaves of illustrations for tracing, copying and coloring, and 8 leaves of tracing paper. The front and back covers are chromolithograph illustrations; the front cover features a boy drawing and a girl at play, the back cover illustration is of a seated child drawing. Above her are the words: "A thing of beauty is a joy forever." "510" is printed in the lower left-hand corner of the front cover. The illustrations within this book are grouped by category, and each leaf is labeled: "Little Folks Friends (toys); Feathered Friends; Four Footed Friends; Fruits and [has been cut out]; The Farmer and the Goose (signed by Rhoda Chase); Towser and the Snow Man (also signed by Rhoda Chase); and Mothers Sewing Circle." Many of the images have been traced and colored in. "Alice Brown, Dec. 25, 1928" is written in ms., in pencil, at the top of the back cover. One joint drawing and tracing book entitled Drawing and Tracing Book: Children at Play, published by McLoughlin Bros., New York, copyright 1898. The cover title is Drawing and Tracing Book: Children at Play. This book is comprised of 8 plates of lithograph images. There are no sheets of tracing paper in this volume. The publisher's statement is printed in the lower right-hand corner of the front cover: "Copyright 1898, McLoughlin Bros., New York." The back cover reads: "First Lessons in Drawing for Children", with a "No. 81" printed below it. Below these words is a floral decoration. The chromolithograph illustration on the front cover is of a young child, wearing a white cap and a white dress, holding a wooden spoon. The illustrations inside have been painted in with watercolors. "Marion Terry" is written in ms., in crayon, within the book.

The Calumet Prize Drawing Book, No. 1

One manufacturer's advertisement/drawing book entitled The Calumet Prize Drawing Book, No. 1, published by Calumet Baking Powder Company, Chicago, ca. 1902. This booklet contains 6 leaves of black and white lithograph illustrations, each covered by a leaf of tracing paper. The inside of the front cover, as well as the recto of the first illustration, contain advertisements for Calumet Baking Powder. Two illustrated advertising rhymes are found on the verso of the last leaf and on the inside of the back cover. Instructions for use of this drawing book are found on the inside of the front cover. Some of the illustrations for copying are: a rhinoceros, a train, tulips and a can of Calumet Baking Powder. The front cover is a chromolithograph illustration of children dressed for a parade. "M. Umbdenstock & Co." (presumably the lithographer) is printed at the bottom of the inside of the back cover.

One joint drawing and tracing book entitled Drawing and Tracing Book: Funny Animals, published by McLoughlin Bros., New York, copyright 1898. The cover title is: Drawing and Tracing Book: Funny Animals &c. This book is comprised of 8 leaves of lithograph plates. The sheets of tracing paper appear to have been removed. The front and back covers are chromolithographs; the illustration on the front cover is of a robin, wearing a vest and jacket and tipping his hat. The back cover bears the words "First lessons in drawing for children, No. 81", above a floral decoration. The images for tracing and coloring are whimsical in nature; there are pictures of cats reading and swinging on swings, dancing frogs and a seated pig smoking a pipe. Some of the images have been colored in with watercolor paints.

The front cover is a chromolithograph scene of a little girl, holding a doll and a cat, crossing a wooden bridge and looking at a goat kid in her path. The title is above the picture. The back cover is a blue and white pattern design. The title page reads: Amusement for Little Children. Drawing and Tracing Book. The images for tracing are domestic and farm animals. On the inside of the front cover is some brief text about the benefits of tracing and drawing for children. "Ethel Grant- May 3" is written in ms, in pencil, at the top of the title page.
