One drawing book/manufacturer's advertisement entitled The Singer Drawing Book for Young Artists, published by Singer Sewing Machine Co., ca. 1900. This promotional booklet contains 8 unnumbered pages of illustrations, each with its own sheet of tracing paper. The color illustration on the front cover is of three children gathered around a desk; the two little girls are watching the older boy draw. The color illustration on the back cover is the Singer Sewing Machine logo (a red S) superimposed on an image of a seated woman who is sewing with her Singer sewing machine. Some of the illustrations for tracing are promotional; the first image is of a sewing machine. The other illustrations are of children and animals. None of the images have been traced. "3-" (price) is written in ms. in the upper right-hand corner of the front cover.

The Young Artist's Painting and Drawing Book

One drawing/painting book, ca. 1915, entitled The Young Artist's Painting and Drawing Book, by F. I. Wetherbee, published by M. A. Donohue & Co., Chicago. This book is comprised of 44 unnumbered pages of chromolithograph and outline illustrations for painting. The front cover is a chromolithograph of a seated child who is painting at an easel. "M.A. Donohue & Co., Chicago" is printed in the lower left-hand corner. The back cover illustration is of a girl on a low seat reading a book. "Directions for the Little Artist" are printed on the front pastedown, opposite the title page. A few descriptive lines are printed below the title: "Being a collection of the most artistic color schemes ever produced in an instructive painting book, teaching accuracy, harmony, beauty and color with pencil, paint and brush. Complete instructions for the little artist." Most, but not all, of the images appear in pairs, one colored and the other in outline form, for coloring. Some of the illustrations have been colored.

Young America Painting Book: for Young People with Easy Drawing Lessons

One painting book entitled Young America Painting Book: for Young People with Easy Drawing Lessons, published by Platt & Nourse Co., New York, 1913. This painting book is composed of unnumbered pages containing color and outline illustrations; the latter were meant for coloring. The front cover is a chromolithograph of three children painting a mural. "Copyright 1913, The Platt & Peck Co." is printed in the lower left-hand corner of the image. The back cover is blue, and is not illustrated. The front and back pastedowns are illustrated and have been colored in with crayon. Printed on the verso of the title page is : "Copyright, 1913, by the Platt & Peck Co." This is followed by three pages containing an introduction and illustrated definitions of terms used in drawing and painting. The sample color images and those for coloring include scenes of children at play, toys, animals and flowers. Many of the images have been colored in with crayons.

One joint drawing and tracing book entitled Drawing and Tracing Book: Boats and Houses, published by McLoughlin Bros., New York, copyright 1898. The cover title reads: Drawing and Tracing Book: Boats and Houses. This book is comprised of 8 lithograph plates of images for drawing and tracing. The front and back covers are chromolithographs; the front cover features a bespectacled little girl, seated at a table, painting in a coloring book. The back cover reads: "First lessons in drawing for children" and has a decorative, floral design below the words. The publisher's statement is in the lower left-hand corner of the front cover: "Copyright 1898, McLoughlin Bros. New York." The images inside the book are the same as those in Box 33, env. 03. These images have been traced in pencil and colored in with crayons. "Helen A. Bailey" is written in ms., in pencil, across the bottom of the front cover.

Young Folks' Drawing Book

One manufacturer's advertisement/drawing book entitled Young Folks' Drawing Book, published by Billings, Clapp & Co., Boston, Massachusetts, ca. 1886. This advertisement/drawing book promotes both Nichol's Bark & Iron and encourages drawing practice. It is 16 unnumbered pages in length, and contains manufacturer's advertisements, testimonials (dated 1884-1886), and illustrations for copying. Each of the illustrations are printed against a numbered and lettered grid; a blank grid is printed on the facing page for copying. The front and back covers feature chromolithograph illustrations; on the front cover is an image of children drawing and playing, on the back, a young boy sits wearing a red tam and sash, with the tam bearing the name of "Nichol's Bark & Iron." None of the illustrations within the booklet have been copied. "Trautmann Bailey & Blampey, N.Y." (chromolithography) is printed at the bottom of the front cover.

This book is comprised of 8 lithograph plates of images for both copying and tracing, with 8 leaves of tracing paper bound in front of each plate. The front cover is a chromolithograph scene of a little girl, holding a doll and a cat, crossing a wooden bridge and looking at a goat kid in her path. The title is above the picture. The back cover is a blue and white pattern design. The title page reads: Amusement for Little Children. Drawing and Tracing Book. The images for tracing are domestic and farm animals. On the inside of the front cover is some brief text about the benefits of tracing and drawing for children. "Ethel Grant- May 3" is written in ms, in pencil, at the top of the title page.
