    One drawing book entitled Krüsi's Drawing: Synthetic Series, New series, No. 2, published by D. Appleton & Co., New York, copyright 1878. This book consists of 16 pages of geometric designs, which emphasize the practice of lines and shapes. Suggestions to Teachers are printed on the inside of the front cover, and specifics of line drawing are outlined on the inside of the back cover. On each page are the illustrations and space intended for copying. The front cover is decoratively bordered; the back cover is a publisher's advertisement for Model Copy-Books in six numbers (penmanship studies), offered by D. Appleton & Co. Laid inside the book are three sheets of paper, two of which are blank. The third contains several original illustrations. A blue ownership stamp of I.A. Dexter is on the front cover.

    Two art instruction books entitled Krüsi's Drawing: Analytic Series, Nos. 5 and 6, published by D. Appleton & Company, New York, copyright 1873. Each consists of lithographs, with blank facing pages for copying. Book No. 5 is 20 pages in length, with 10 sets of illustrations; Book No. 6 is 24 pages in length, with 12 sets of illustrations. The front cover of each is identical, with lavish decorative elements. The back cover of each contains publishers' advertisements for Miss Youmans's New Botanical Series, offered for sale by D. Appleton & Co. Book No. 5 consists of images of animals, including birds, dogs, horses and rabbits. All of the images have been copied by a previous owner, and there are several additional original sketches, as well as letters done in calligraphy style in midnight blue ink. The black ink ownership stamp of Fred E. Howe is in several places throughout the book, including the front cover. The illustrations in Book 6 are primarily of the human figure and some of its parts, including hands, feet, and faces. Only three of the images have been copied.

    One drawing book of original drawings entitled Drawing Book, created by Ella Seaver in 1879. The drawing book is 12 unnumbered leaves in length, and contains 14 pencil drawings, some of which are dated November 1879. The are images of flowers, floral designs, and some vases. An accompanying note from DK states the images are "after Walter Smith." Some of the leaves are blank. None of the images are signed, but "Ella Seaver" is written in ms. in the upper right-hand corner of the front cover. There are tissue guard sheets between each of the leaves.

    One drawing book: publisher and author unknown. Possibly from a Bartholomew series, ca. 1885?. This drawing book is comprised of 11 lithograph leaves of images intended for copying. The leaves are numbered 1-12; leaf 11 is lacking. Each leaf contains one or more images, with space below for tracing or copying. Some of the images include church arches, pots and kettles, vases and water glasses. The covers are lacking. Title supplied by cataloger.

    White's School Series of Industrial Drawing, Free Hand

    One drawing book entitled White's School Series of Industrial Drawing, Free Hand, by H.P. Smith, published by Ivison, Blakeman, Taylor & Co., New York and Chicago, copyright 1878. "Engravings by John Karst" appears on the lower right-hand corner of the front cover. This book consists of 16 pages with 15 lessons (lesson 15 is wanting). Each lesson is accompanied by blank space or partial-model for copying by the owner. Some of the items for copying include vases, plants and flowers, Egyptian and Greek ornaments and designs, and pattern designs. The front cover is illustrated with a decorative border and an image of a decorated vase. The inside back cover lists geometric terms and their definitions, as well as quotations from Grammar of Ornament by Owen Jones. The outside back cover is a publisher's advertisement for "White's School Series of Industrial Drawing and Progressive Art Studies." This book is vertically oriented; the spine is along the long side of the book at the top, and is to be opened and used by lifting the cover up, instead of to the right, as usual. Some of the images have been copied in pencil by a previous owner. "Annie S. Todd" is written in ms. at the top of the front cover.

    One drawing book entitled A New Series of First Class Drawing Copies, published by J. Cooke & Sons, London, ca. 1880? This book is comprised of 7 lithograph plates intended for copying. Each of the plates, with one exception, contains two images. The image on the left-hand side is a picture in outline, and the image on the right is that same image, but complete with shading and texture. The one exception is a full-page illustration that is already complete with shading and texture. The front and back covers are printed in red. The title on the front cover is within a decorative frame. The back cover features a vignette of 3 children who are drawing. "10--" (price) is written in ms., in pencil, in the upper right-hand corner of the first page.
