    Two drawing books entitled White's New Course in Art Instruction For Elementary Schools, published by American Book Company, New York, Cincinnati, Chicago, copyright 1892. One book is labeled 5th year, the other as 7th year. Bound in brown paper. 5th year is 32 pages in length, (numbered and unnumbered); 7th year is 36 pages in length (numbered and unnumbered). The unnumbered pages in these two volumes were used as copying pages. All of the copying pages in 7th year are blank; some of them in 5th year have been filled in with pencil drawings. 5th year contains one page with paper cutout pattern pasted in. In each book are also several pages of "Illustrated Definitions", and the inside front and back covers of each book are manufacturers' advertisements for "Materials for the Study of Color, Form, and Drawing" to be used in connection with the books in the series.

    One Japanese pattern book, ca.1898, labeled (or titled?) in Japanese on the cover. Approximately 150 pages in length, the small book appears to contain Japanese symbols, patterns and words. The pages are unnumbered. The item is bound in yellow paper overlaying embossed paper. "Owned and Given Compliments of Arthur W. Dow" is said to be written on the pink paper label affixed to the front cover. (per DK). Title supplied by cataloger.

    One drawing/painting book, ca. 1905, entitled Little Folks' Painting and Drawing Book, published by McLoughlin Bros., New York. This book is 32 unnumbered pages in length and is comprised of chromolithograph and black and white lithographs in outline form for coloring. The front cover features an image of two children wrapping a gift box. "0701, McLoughlin Bros. N.Y." is printed in the lower left-hand corner beneath the image. The back cover is not illustrated, but the paper is decorated in a simple pattern. "Directions" are printed on the front pastedown, and the title page is illustrated with a black and white image of a boy painting a fence. All of the illustrations are of animals; some have been colored. A ms. inscription in ink is on the title page. "2.-" (price) is written in ms., in pencil, in the upper right-hand corner of the title page.

    One painting book, ca. 1935, entitled Flowers, A Paint Book, illustrated by Pru Herric, published by Whitman Publishing Company, Racine, Wisconsin. This book is composed of 32 unnumbered pages of outline drawings of flowers. The front cover illustration is of flowers within a white trellis pattern. The back cover is the same pattern, but with different flowers. Each of the pages for coloring features a single type of flower that is identified by its common name; color suggestions are below the name of the flower. Some of the images have been colored in with chalk.

    One Japanese pattern book, circa 1898. The book is labeled (or titled) in Japanese on the cover; it contains approximately 200 pages in length, and is comprised of labeled (in Japanese) nature scenes, including those of waterfalls, birds, flowers and trees. "Compliments of Arthur W. Dow, 1898", is written, in ms., in ink, at the top of the first page. The item is bound in orange paper overlaying thick paper. Title supplied by cataloger.

    One drawing book of original drawings entitled Sketch Book created by Wynna Wright in 1908. It is bound in tan cloth; the title is stamped in red letters on the front cover. The drawing book is 34 unnumbered leaves in length, and contains pencil drawings of women in early 20th century dress. It is vertically oriented; one flips the pages up rather than from right to left as with a regular book. None of the drawings are signed or dated. "Wynna Wright, 4 Kimball Road, April 12, 1908" is written in ms., in pencil, on the front flyleaf. Tissue paper guard sheets are bound in between each of the leaves.
