California is shown as a peninsula, Cape Mendocin is located at latitude 54, and the Anian country is in the position of Alaska. In the south Terra Austrailis is represented as an enormous continent stretching around the world from New Guinea to Java. It also locates New Francia, with a city called Canada." Circles in each corner have additional quotes from Cicero and Seneca. This is the third plate, first bound into Theatrum in 1592 per Shirley. Prime meridian: Ferro. Relief: pictorial. Kashnor notes, "Showing Europe, North Africa, Arabia, and Asia Minor, with the curious insert map of the World, indicating three conjectural locations for Ophir, viz., in South Africa, East Africa, and India." Kashnor gives date of 1624 based on the maps inclusion in the Parergon; the Parergon was first published individually in 1624, but had been included in the Theatrum urbis terrarum as early as 1601 (Van der Krogt, map 0810H:31B).
