Description: Manuscript map showing the barracks, stores, support buildings (e.g. hospital, kitchens, bake house, privies) for the Newcastle Barracks in Saint Andrews, Jamaica. An inset map shows the elevation profile of the barracks. The Newcastle military center was constructed in the 1840s under Major General Sir William Maynard Gomm in an effort to reduce the number of yellow fever deaths amongst British troops. The center is still used as a training center for the Jamaican Defense Force.

Plan, elevation, and section of the barracks at Fort-George which contains 140 men [cartographic material]

Manuscript map showing the plan, outer view and cross section of barracks at Fort George. Located along the Hudson River at the junction with the Fish Creek River, the fort was later renamed Fort Hardy, which is located in modern day Schuylerville, Saratoga County, New York. The fireplaces and brickwork are depicted in red ink. Kashnor attributes the map to James Gabriel Montresor, the British engineer, who drew several maps of Fort George in late June 1759.

An inset shows the canon elevations, with bar scale given as 2.75 inches = 40 feet (1:175). Signed: "Em. Hess, Lieut. in the Royal American Regiment".

An inset shows the landfall from St. John's Westward, Partridge Island, bearing north by west about 4 miles.
