  Visual Materials

  A panoramic view of the Fourth of July crowd at the beach in Long Beach. There are hundreds of people, in a mixture of suits and dresses and bathing suits. Many of the people are sitting beneath beach umbrellas or shaded beach chairs, while a couple dozen are in the water. The Pike, an amusement park with shops and rides, is on the far left, and the end of a roller coaster extends over the water at the right edge. In the distance a pier extends into the water, with the Sun pavilion at the far end. A white stamp in the bottom left corner reads "Pettit's Studio ; commercial photographers ; 1416 W.
