One drawing/painting book, copyright 1917, entitled Old Glory Painting and Drawing Book, published by Saalfield Publishing Company, Akron, Ohio, New York and Chicago. This book is 24 unnumbered pages in length and is comprised of lithograph images for coloring and their color prototypes. The front cover is illustrated in color and features an eagle and two images of military men. "1917, Akron, Ohio, The Saalfield Publishing Company, New York, Chicago" is printed at the bottom of the front cover. The back cover bears the same image as the front cover. The title page is illustrated with a color image of a soldier carrying a gun, with the American flag behind him. Some pages leave space for copying the image. Most of the images have been colored, and a few have been copied.

Silhouettes against a rainbow of colors are featured on the front cover; the title appears below the illustration. The back cover duplicates the front cover. "No. 207" is printed in the lower left-hand corner of the front cover. The pastedowns are illustrated. "Copyright, 1929, The Saalfield Publishing Co., Akron, Ohio" is printed on the verso of the title page. Page [5] is informational text entitled "How Colors are Made." The remainder of the pages are illustrations, many of which have been colored in with crayon. "From someone that would love to be your Auntie, Mary [?]" is written in ms., in red crayon, on the front flyleaf. "Helen V." is also written on the front flyleaf, in ms.

One painting book entitled Birds to Paint, published by the Saalfield Publishing Co., Akron, Ohio, 1910. The front cover features a parrot with a yellow head. On the back cover is a child's writing; the name "Louise" can be read. Thirty images of various birds are included, six of which have an identical color image. These color images were meant to guide the student in the use of color. The first page describes the book as: "a paint book for boys and girls which supplies sketches ready to color." Most of the images have been filled in with crayon rather than watercolor.

One painting book entitled Ideal Paint-Box-Book, with Easy Drawing Lessons for Young Painters, published by the Ideal Book Builders, Publishers, Chicago, Illinois, ca. 1907. This book-length painting book contains watercolors, a small palette and paintbrush, all of which folds into a box on the inside front cover. Unnumbered pages of both chromolithograph and lithograph images for coloring comprise the rest of the book. Text in the form of rhymes and poetry accompany most images. The front cover is a chromolithograph image of a boy and a girl painting with two such painting books. Within the body of illustrations, there are several containing racial slurs. The last page is a publisher's advertisement for these and similar painting books. Many of the lithograph images have been colored in with the paints provided. "Patented in United States, Nov. 12, 1907" and "Patented in Great Britain, Dec. 10, 1907" are printed at the bottom of the front cover.

The cover of the book shows three identical girls, dressed in red coats with black umbrellas. On the back cover "Herbert From Aunt Hattie" is written in ms., in pencil. On the inside cover in crayon , is the name "Herbert Goody". Thirty images of various objects and scenes, such as a ball or a train of cars or national flags are included in the book. Six of the images are mirrored with an identical color image to guide the student in the use of color. The first page describes the book as "a paint book for boys and girls which supplies sketches ready to color." Most of the images have been filled in with crayon rather than watercolor.
