    One coloring book entitled A Boatload of Pictures to Color, illustrated by Corrine and Bill Bailey, published by The Saalfield Publishing Company, Akron, Ohio, and New York, copyright 1938. The title page reads: A Boatload of Pictures drawn for you by Corinne & Bill Bailey. This is a large, novelty coloring book that is 48 unnumbered pages in length. There is a storyline of text accompanying the pictures, written as if the reader was a passenger on a cruise ship. The illustrations are of things, people, equipment and sights associated with cruises and ships. The front and back covers are a single image of a large, modern ship sailing through the water. The cover illustration is signed "Bill Bailey." The insides of the front and back covers are blank. Many of the illustrations have been colored in with crayon. "April 5, 1939, Bruce C. Tibbetts" is written in ms., in purple crayon, on the inside of the front cover.

This book is 24 unnumbered pages in length and is comprised of lithograph images for coloring and their color prototypes. The front cover is illustrated in color and features an eagle and two images of military men. "1917, Akron, Ohio, The Saalfield Publishing Company, New York, Chicago" is printed at the bottom of the front cover. The back cover bears the same image as the front cover. The title page is illustrated with a color image of a soldier carrying a gun, with the American flag behind him. Some pages leave space for copying the image. Most of the images have been colored, and a few have been copied.

    One painting book entitled Birds to Paint, published by the Saalfield Publishing Co., Akron, Ohio, 1910. The front cover features a parrot with a yellow head. On the back cover is a child's writing; the name "Louise" can be read. Thirty images of various birds are included, six of which have an identical color image. These color images were meant to guide the student in the use of color. The first page describes the book as: "a paint book for boys and girls which supplies sketches ready to color." Most of the images have been filled in with crayon rather than watercolor.

    One pamphlet entitled Modern Color Magic in Dress and Home Decoration, by Mae Martin, published by Wells and Richardson Company, Incorporated, Burlington, Vermont, 1937. This pamphlet is 32 numbered pages in length and advertises Diamond Tints & Dyes. It is illustrated with color images of the wide variety of uses for these products, including clothes, curtains, upholstery, towels, lingerie, etc. The front cover features an image of a woman in a pink dress with a multicolored peacock-like flourish who is appraising herself in front of a mirror . This vibrant image is set against a black background; the title is within a banner at the top. The back cover is black, with a diamond-shaped center of nine colored components. "Copyright 1937 Wells and Richardson Company, Incorporated, Made and printed in U.S.A." is printed on the inside of the front cover. A representation of an "Award of Honor to Diamond Tints & Dyes for Distinguished Service at the South Pole" is featured inside the back cover. Both an order form and a letter from the company addressed to Mabel Spofford are laid in the pamphlet.

    One art instruction book entitled Introductory Lessons in Drawing and Painting in Water-Colors, by Marion Kemble, published by S.W. Tilton & Company, Boston, copyright 1882. Following a preface and an introduction, the book is informally divided into 4 sections, the first of which is entitled "Perspective". The remaining sections are: "Water colors," "Directions for coloring". The book is 66 pages in length, with an additional 13 unnumbered pages of testimonials and advertisements at the end. Two pages of publisher's advertisements for "Self-Instructive Lessons in drawing and painting in water-colors" precede the title page. Each section within the book is illustrated with line drawings; the section entitled "Directions for coloring" contains 7 full-page illustrations. Of these, 6 are numbered and are accompanied by textual instruction for painting. The back cover is a publisher's advertisement for "Bulfinch's Mythology. The Age of Fable" edited by Rev. E.E. Hale. The insides of the front and back covers are blank. "H.N.[?] Gey.[?]" is written in ms. in ink, in the upper right-hand corner, "V.B. Cummings" is written in ms., in pencil, in the upper left-hand corner of the front cover.

The first page describes the book as: "a paint book for boys and girls which supplies sketches ready to color." and gives instructions on the use of watercolor. There book consists of twenty-four images of various animals, six of which have an identical color image meant to guide the student in the use of color. Most of the images have been filled in with crayon rather then watercolor.
