Two photograph albums compiled by Fred Tom, a Chinese cadet aviator who trained in the United States from 1942 to 1943. The first album documents these training years and includes snapshots of Fred Tom, family members, and his Chinese and American colleagues at Luke Field in Phoenix, Arizona, and Randolph Field in Texas. The album also includes Tom's invitation to the 1943 graduation of the Air Corps Advanced Flying School - Chinese Detachment at Randolph Field, along with an 8 x 10-inch photograph of the airfield inscribed by about 20 people. The second album dates to about twenty years later, the late-1950s to 1963. This album documents Fred Tom's family life in the United States (he likely immigrated to the United States after World War II). Photographs include Tom's wife and children, extended family, holiday gatherings, and visits to sites across the United States, including Chinatowns (with at least one photograph of Los Angeles Chinatown). Both albums contain some handwritten notations in Chinese, and include some postcards, clippings, and other ephemera.

    Family album of snapshots depicting the family of Du Wan and Tom J. Chong in Los Angeles, California, in the 1930s. There are many views of the Chong family and friends, as well as members of Los Angeles's Chinese community on outings, at the beach, attending picnics, on the University of Southern California campus, and at their residences. The album was presumably compiled by the Chongs' son Paul Tom, a pharmacist, and there are many images of him with friends as a young man, as well as a few of him posing at the shop where he worked in Old Chinatown near the Los Angeles Plaza. There are also images of the "Majestic Mandarins" band, shots of Paul on location in 1936 as an extra for the films "Lost Horizon" and "The General Died at Dawn," and of the "Chinese Group" of the Screen Actors Guild in a 1937 Labor Day parade. In addition there are 14 pieces of ephemera at the back of the album related to Paul consisting chiefly of cards and invitations often related to the Chinese American Citizens Alliance, and a program for Paul's 1928 graduation from Los Angeles High School. Some photographs have handwritten captions.

    Includes 1 photograph album containing 39 photographs depicting post-World War I scenes including buildings in ruins; a British dugout; coal mining machinery in Lens; a British Officers' rest house in Germany; soldiers and men, women, and children on streets in France and Brussels, Belgium; a post office in the Netherlands; and several images of Bailleul, including the destroyed Hotel de Ville. The loose photograph is an aerial image of an unidentified location by the United States Navy (1917).

    Sylvester Thomas Blue photograph album and correspondence related to World War II in China

    A photograph album and letters documenting the experiences of Sylvester Thomas "Bud" Blue, a private in the United States Marine Corps, in Shanghai, China, during World War II. The album contains 127 photographs: personal snapshots, photo booth portraits, commercially-made photographs, and a few photographic postcards of Shanghai. The album has no writing and people are not identified. Subjects include American and Chinese soldiers; images of war dead and destruction in Shanghai; a military parade; portraits of American and Chinese women; and scenes of soldiers drilling and at leisure. A few images show prominent figures such as Chiang Kai-shek and Soong May-ling, and other military scenes in Shanghai. Accompanying the album are nine letters from Blue to his parents in Danville, Illinois, posted from Shanghai and elsewhere between 1939 and 1945. One letter includes a newspaper clipping noting Blue and other soldiers being sent to the Fourth Marines in China.
