  Two photograph albums compiled by Fred Tom, a Chinese cadet aviator who trained in the United States from 1942 to 1943. The first album documents these training years and includes snapshots of Fred Tom, family members, and his Chinese and American colleagues at Luke Field in Phoenix, Arizona, and Randolph Field in Texas. The album also includes Tom's invitation to the 1943 graduation of the Air Corps Advanced Flying School - Chinese Detachment at Randolph Field, along with an 8 x 10-inch photograph of the airfield inscribed by about 20 people. The second album dates to about twenty years later, the late-1950s to 1963. This album documents Fred Tom's family life in the United States (he likely immigrated to the United States after World War II). Photographs include Tom's wife and children, extended family, holiday gatherings, and visits to sites across the United States, including Chinatowns (with at least one photograph of Los Angeles Chinatown). Both albums contain some handwritten notations in Chinese, and include some postcards, clippings, and other ephemera.

  Back family photograph album

  A photograph album documenting the lives of Seid Back, Jr., Mary Chan Back, and their two children, Dip Gay Seid Back (1915-1983) and Katherine Mae Seid Back Lee (1918-2006). Seid Back, Jr. was the son of prominent Chinese American merchant Seid Back, based in Portland, Oregon. The album begins with a studio portrait of the Back family taken in the early 20th century and continues with the lives of the Back family and friends in locations such as Oregon, Washington, California, and the South Pacific, through the late 1940s. A man who is possibly Dip Gay Seid Back is seen in military clothing at a U.S. encampment; writing on the back says "Men of 13th Gen. Hospital. Dec. 1944. New Guinea." Other photographs show young people, white and Asian, in recreational activities and sometimes posing by new cars or in front of houses. The album depicts the everyday activities of young Chinese Americans during the Chinese Exclusion era, their travels by automobiles throughout the American West, a young Chinese American serviceman in the South Pacific, and interracial marriages between Chinese American women and U.S. servicemen.

  Boudinot family photograph album, (bulk 1890-1926)

  A photograph album of the Boudinot family who were a pioneering ranching family in Escondido, California. The album was compiled by Lovenia ("Vinnie") Boudinot, and contains many images of her school friends, family, and scenes around their farm. The album has some newspaper clippings and other ephemera related to the Boudinot family and Lovenia's involvement in Christian Endeavor. Her parents and others are seen in agricultural work on the ranch, such as plowing fields, feeding chickens, and growing vegetables. A display of produce has a sign "from the ranch of F. E. Boudinot." The album begins with images of relatives in Iowa and their houses there, then to the Escondido ranch years, then to the canyons of Pacific Palisades and the Chatauqua religious camp. Ephemera includes local theater programs (1916); a pamphlet about preaching Christianity to the Chinese, along with one photograph of two Chinese children at their church; graduation programs from Escondido High School (1902) and a list of students' names; and a program for a religious convention in San Diego, 1910s.

  Thomas Family Photograph Album

  A personal photograph album of 104 images with handwritten captions chiefly depicting Chester A. Thomas (1874-1920) and Thomas family members between 1892 and 1898 in mining camps in Nevada (pages 1-29); at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California (pages 30-33); visiting Harvard University and Cambridge, Massachusetts (pages 38-49); and at Camp Merritt at the Presidio, San Francisco, in 1898 (pages 33-37 and 50-65). The album includes 20 cyanotype photographs (12.5 x 16.5 cm) of the mining camps in Virginia City and Sutro, Nevada (where Thomas's father, Charles Thomas, was superintendent of the Sutro tunnel), including: mining equipment, miners, locomotive cars, interior views of the mine shaft, buildings and mules. Some of the images are of Camp Merritt, at the Presidio in San Francisco, California, where California volunteers assembled in May-June 1898 for transport to the Philippines during the Spanish American War. Thomas, a member of Company K of the United States Cavalry Volunteers, is depicted as well as other soldiers, including members of the 51st Iowa Volunteers.
