S. A. Minnich photograph album of a Church of the Brethren family in Southern California
Visual Materials
An album of 103 photographs documenting the years 1905 to 1907 in the life of a young man from a large Church of the Brethren family who settled in Southern California. The album is signed "S. A. Minnich, 752 Hull St., Pasadena" on the inside back cover, and large groups of family and friends are seen posed in front of houses, though the people are not identified. Handwritten captions indicate locations and dates of sites across Southern California, including the train depot at Port Los Angeles, the Lordsburg train depot (now in La Verne), downtown Long Beach, Riverside Cactus Garden, picnics in Eaton Canyon, and the Ocean Park Bath House. Many scenes are in Pasadena, showing houses on Hudson and Hull streets, grand homes on Orange Grove Boulevard, the 1906 Tournament of Roses parade, Hotel Green, the Pasadena Library, and Busch Gardens, which opened in 1906. There are also photographs of the First Brethren Church in Los Angeles, and the Baptist Brethren Church on Hull Street in Pasadena.

Beecher Family photograph album
Visual Materials
An album of 45 carte-de-visite photographs dating from the 1850s-1870s, containing portraits of the Beecher family of New England, as well as abolitionists Lucretia Mott, Robert Collyer and unidentified men, women and children. Subjects include: Charles Beecher (1815-1900), page 3, and Lyman Beecher (1775-1863), page 29, the brother and father, respectively, of noted author and abolitionist Harriet Beecher Stowe (who does not appear). Two portraits of anti-slavery and women's rights activist Lucretia Mott (1793-1880) are on pages 19 and 20, one a familiar seated view and another more unusual view of her sitting behind a table with her hand on an open book. A portrait of a young Robert Collyer (1823-1912), the clergyman and abolitionist, appears on page 37, with his name written in ink on the mount (the only photograph that appears to have writing on it). The album itself has no writing except for some flower sketches; identifications have been made largely through research, and there may be other Beecher family or friends represented. Other views include three portraits of men in military uniforms, and two portraits of a little girl with a doll.

One portrait shows a teenage girl in a head covering, wearing a cross, possibly related to a convent or Catholic communion. A set of negatives (no prints) found inside the album depict people on a visit to Japan. Scenes include tourists visiting temples, a man riding in a rickshaw, and a woman wearing a kimono, showing ikebana.
