    One painting book entitled Young America Painting Book: for Young People with Easy Drawing Lessons, published by Platt & Nourse Co., New York, 1913. This painting book is composed of unnumbered pages containing color and outline illustrations; the latter were meant for coloring. The front cover is a chromolithograph of three children painting a mural. "Copyright 1913, The Platt & Peck Co." is printed in the lower left-hand corner of the image. The back cover is blue, and is not illustrated. The front and back pastedowns are illustrated and have been colored in with crayon. Printed on the verso of the title page is : "Copyright, 1913, by the Platt & Peck Co." This is followed by three pages containing an introduction and illustrated definitions of terms used in drawing and painting. The sample color images and those for coloring include scenes of children at play, toys, animals and flowers. Many of the images have been colored in with crayons.

    One painting book, ca. 1935, entitled Flowers, A Paint Book, illustrated by Pru Herric, published by Whitman Publishing Company, Racine, Wisconsin. This book is composed of 32 unnumbered pages of outline drawings of flowers. The front cover illustration is of flowers within a white trellis pattern. The back cover is the same pattern, but with different flowers. Each of the pages for coloring features a single type of flower that is identified by its common name; color suggestions are below the name of the flower. Some of the images have been colored in with chalk.

    One drawing/painting book, ca. 1910, entitled Drawing and Painting Book, published by McLoughlin Bros., Springfield, Massachusetts. This book is 24 unnumbered pages in length, and contains illustrations for coloring. The front cover is a chromolithograph illustration of a girl reading a book while imaginary fairies and butterflies fly around her. "Made in U.S.A. McLoughlin Bros. Inc., Springfield, Mass." is printed in the lower left-hand corner of the front cover. The back cover is a chromolithograph image of a jar of paintbrushes and several jars of paint. The title page features an illustration of young Dutch children and descriptive text beneath the title: "A Drawing and Painting Book designed according to the best art methods of starting with simple design and color and progressing to more advanced subjects." Some of the illustrations are in pairs, with one printed in color and the other in outline form, which was meant for coloring. Included are images of people, buildings and animals. Some of the images have been colored with crayon or watercolor.

    One drawing/painting book, ca. 1915, entitled The Young Artist's Painting and Drawing Book, by F. I. Wetherbee, published by M. A. Donohue & Co., Chicago. This book is comprised of 44 unnumbered pages of chromolithograph and outline illustrations for painting. The front cover is a chromolithograph of a seated child who is painting at an easel. "M.A. Donohue & Co., Chicago" is printed in the lower left-hand corner. The back cover illustration is of a girl on a low seat reading a book. "Directions for the Little Artist" are printed on the front pastedown, opposite the title page. A few descriptive lines are printed below the title: "Being a collection of the most artistic color schemes ever produced in an instructive painting book, teaching accuracy, harmony, beauty and color with pencil, paint and brush. Complete instructions for the little artist." Most, but not all, of the images appear in pairs, one colored and the other in outline form, for coloring. Some of the illustrations have been colored.

    One portfolio of painting sheets entitled Box of Pictures to Paint, published by McLoughlin Bros., New York, copyright 1892. This set is comprised of 4 chromolithograph and 5 outline (black and white) plates, housed inside a wood and paperboard box. The front cover/lid of the box is decorated with a vivid chromolithograph of two boys painting together; one is seated on a chair, the other is standing on the same chair. This image, within an oval frame, is surrounded by a blue and gold chromolithographed marble pattern. The title is within a decorative fan above the boys' heads. The back cover of the box is decorated with the same marbling, and contains a centered image of a box of paints, with some water and paintbrushes, on a table. The plates are unnumbered. Some plates are duplicates of one another (one in color and the other in outline, for coloring), and others are a lone color plate or images in outline form. All of the outline plates have been colored in with watercolor. On the inside of the box's lid are printed "A Few Practical Instructions for Young Painters." "Archie F. Jones" is stamped, in blue ink, at the top of this mounted sheet.

    One painting book entitled Something Pretty to Paint, published by Ernest Nister, London and E.P. Dutton & Co., New York, ca. 1915. This book is comprised of 10 plates, some chromolithographs and some lithographs, of perforated cards, largely containing floral images and Biblical verse. The chromolithographs are samples, and the images in outline form are intended for coloring and sending. Each leaf of the lithograph cards is perforated along the inner edge, and each leaf is comprised of four separate cards, with perforations in between. The front cover is a chromolithograph image of a girl in a pink dress holding her landscape painting. The back cover is blank. "Printed in Bavaria, 399" is printed at the bottom of the front cover and of the title page. "$4805amo/10-" is written in ms., in pencil, in the upper right-hand corner of the first page.
