One boxed set of watercolor paints entitled Pretty Pets Paint Box, manufacturer unknown, ca. 1895. The set is comprised of 28 cakes of watercolor paint, two small porcelain dishes, one paintbrush, a piece of glass, and a 5-inch paper ruler. The cakes of paint are embossed with an artist's palette design, and are contained within wooden dividers in a wooden box (no lid). This box is housed within a paperboard box (which does have a lid). Mounted onto the paperboard lid is a chromolithograph image of three girls, each painting a toy elephant. "2.00" (price) is written in ms., in pencil, in the upper right-hand corner of the image on the lid.

One boxed set of watercolor paints entitled Our Children's Favorite Paint Box, manufacturer unknown, ca. 1895. The set is comprised of 18 cakes of watercolor paint, two porcelain dishes, and two thin sticks of charcoal. The paints are contained within wooden dividers, and are embossed with an image of an eagle. The set is housed within a wooden box with a sliding lid. A chromolithograph with labeled scenes of monuments and buildings in various American cities is mounted to the lid. One of the images is labeled "Chicago-Exhibition 1893." "Made in Germany" is printed on the image as well.

One boxed painting set, ca. 1915. This set is contained within a light wooden box and is comprised of a wooden tray which holds (via red elastic bands) 10 small cakes of watercolor paint, two porcelain mixing dishes, two paintbrushes, a 5-inch wooden ruler, and two wooden sticks. Tucked into the top lid and below a cardstock divider in the bottom half are 8 sheets containing original artwork. An additional sheet with sample images for copying is included and tucked into the top lid. The top lid is attached to the box with a red cloth ribbon and decorated with a chromolithograph image, in the shape of an artist's palette, of a winter scene. A small metal lock is affixed to both halves of the box. No manufacturer is listed; no date is given. Title supplied by cataloger.

Donald Duck Paint Box

One boxed watercolor paint set entitled Donald Duck Paint Box, manufactured by Transogram, Inc., New York and Walt Disney Productions, 1950. The set is comprised of 12 molded star-shaped cakes of watercolor paints and one paintbrush, housed within a decorated tin box. The paints are affixed to the bottom of the box, and printed within the center (on paper) is: "Donald Duck Paint Set, No. 1422." The underside of the hinged lid bears black, red and white images of Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Minnie Mouse, Pluto, Goofy and Dopey. At the bottom of the underside of the lid is printed "A Transogram Gold Medal Craft Set" and "[copyright symbol] Walt Disney Productions." "Copyright 1950 Walt Disney Productions" is printed at the bottom of the top lid illustration. Images of Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse painting feature on the top lid.

One boxed set of watercolor paints entitled Fine Art Colour Box, manufacturer unknown, ca. 1890. The set is comprised of 18 rectangular cakes of watercolor paint, two large(er) and two small porcelain dishes, and two sticks of charcoal. Each of the cakes of paint is embossed with an image of an eagle. The set is housed within a wooden box with a sliding lid. A chromolithograph of an easel, a palette, and a table holding books and instruments is mounted to the lid. "Made in Germany" is printed below the title on this lid image. One of the cakes of paint has "SEPIE" embossed on it, and two of the cakes of paint are missing. The cakes of paint are affixed to the bottom of the box, and are contained within wooden dividers.

Crayola-Picture-Tracer

One boxed tracing set entitled Crayola-Picture-Tracer, manufactured by E.I.H. Co., ca. 1911. This tracing set is comprised of one metal drawing and tracing "tablet", 11 chromolithograph cards for tracing, and a roll of tracing paper mounted into the metal tablet. These items are housed within a cardboard box with a hinged lid. Illustrated instructions are printed on the underside of the top lid. A listing of the contents is also given: "This outfit consists of an enameled steel hygienic tracing and drawing tablet of simple construction. (See explanatory cut.) Seventeen Crayola Crayons in different colors, and one black Crayon for outlining; Twelve colored pictures (Fairy-Tale Series); a roll of tracing paper; Crayon sharpener." The sharpener, crayons and one colored card are missing. On each of the cards is printed "Copyright, 1913, by Binney & Smith Co., N.Y." "Crayola-Picture Tracer Pat'd Oct. 24, 1911" is embossed on the metal tracing tablet. Also included are 9 additional images, 7 of which are a newspaper cartoon series. The lid of the box is illustrated with a chromolithograph copy of one of the tracing cards. The label reads: "Do not call a toy for children perfect until you look inside and see the Crayola-Picture Tracer, everything a toy should be--and nothing it should not be." Much of the roll of tracing paper is intact; one completed traced and colored image is within a protective envelope, and another image is "in process" on the device itself.
