    One drawing book entitled The New Progressive Drawing Book, Containing Lithographic Sketches, and Drawings of Landscape Scenery: Designed for Self Instruction, published by C. P. Huestis, New York, 1844. The drawing book is comprised of 12 unnumbered plates of lithograph images of landscapes and scenes, all of which are unsigned. The title and publication information on the front cover are within a plain double ruled frame; the back cover is illustrated. The insides of the front and back covers are blank. A black ink ownership stamp of R. Palmer Po[s]t is stamped on the recto of the first leaf.

    One drawing book entitled The Youth's New Drawing Book, Containing Progressive Information on Sketching and Drawing Landscape Scenery, &c. Designed for Self Instruction, or the Use of Teachers, published by C.P. Huestis, New York, 1844. This drawing book is 24 pages in length, and contains 11 numbered woodcut illustrations, labeled as plates. As stated in the preface, "the author has endeavoured to place within reach of ingenious young artists, ... all requisite information to attain a practical knowledge of the art." The focus of this book is on teaching the student to make a "correct drawing"; the lessons instruct on perspective, proportion, outline and form. Some of the illustrations include: a large house, a cow, and several views. "Vincent L. Dill, Stereotyper" is printed on the verso of the title page. The front cover bears the same image as Plate V, with the title superimposed on the image. The final page and the back cover are duplicate publisher's advertisements.

    One art instruction book entitled The Columbian Drawing Book, designed for Schools and Private Instruction, by William B. Shattuck, No. 2, published by Bradley & Anthony, Cincinnati, Ohio, 1849. Additional publishers listed on the title page are: New York, Cady & Burgess; Boston: James Monroe & Co. The book consists of 6 pages of text, followed by 8 numbered lithographs, printed by Otto Oncken, Cincinnati [Ohio]. The black and white images are primarily of houses, the first two are schematic in nature. On the back cover is a publisher's announcement for the Columbian Drawing Book and the Columbian Drawing Cards. Recommendations for use of this book are found on the inside of the front cover; the inside of the back cover is an advertisement for Bradley & Anthony, Publishers, Booksellers and Stationers.

    One drawing book entitled Self-Instructing Drawing Lessons, for the Little Folks, by John D. F. Brooks, Boston, 1868. This book is 42 unnumbered pages in length and contains numerous line-drawings. Each drawing features a step-by-step number guide for creating a finished drawing. The subjects of these drawings include: a horse, boats, garden tools and equipment, body parts and small scenes. The front cover contains a large circular engraving of three children in a run-down kitchen, one of whom draws while the other two watch. The inside of the front cover contains textual instructions, and the inside of the back cover features other (completed) images. The back cover is an advertisement for Frost & Adams, "importers and dealers in artists' materials". "A.E.C." is written in ms., in ink, at the top of the front cover.

    One drawing book entitled An Easy Course of Landscape Drawing Lessons, No. 1, by H. A. Harper, published by George Rowney and Company, London, ca. 1875?. This drawing book is comprised of 4 lithograph plates of houses in outline style, numbered 1-4. The imprint of each reads: "Printed and Published by G. Rowney & Co. 51 Rathbone Place, London." ; each plate is signed "H.A.H." The inside of the front cover is a manufacturer's advertisement for drawing pencils; the inside of the back cover is an advertisement for chalks, crayons, drawing paper and tints. Publisher's advertisements for drawing books are on the back cover. "Oxford: Printed by E.W. Morris, Jun." is printed on the bottom of the back cover.

    One drawing book of original and copied drawings entitled Drawing Book, created by L.A. Cunningham, 1854-1872. The book is comprised of 22 leaves of pencil drawings, some of which are dated between 1854 and 1872. The front and back covers are illustrated with engravings; the illustration on the front cover is of Egyptian stone ruins, and is within an elaborately decorated frame. The image on the back cover is of a floral arrangement, also within an elaborate frame. Many of the original drawings within the book are labeled in ms. by their creator, and include landscape views, views of houses, and floral arrangements or individual plants. "L.A. Cunningham, 1854" is written in ms. on the inside of the front cover. Accompanying this drawing book is a ms. note from DK that is a partial listing of the drawings in this book. According to DK's note, some of the drawings are copied from various Bartholomew drawing books.
