    One boxed set of watercolor paints, untitled; manufacturer's name and date are not given. The set is comprised of several small cakes of watercolor paint, one small, round porcelain dish, and two quill paint brushes. The set is housed within a wooden box with a sliding lid. The box is divided into two halves lengthwise by a wooden divider onto which a paper label identifying each color is barely discernible. This box is similar to sets 5 and 10 in Box Number 75.     One boxed set of watercolor paints, untitled, manufactured by "George W. Osborne, Superfine American Water Colour Manufacturer," Philadelphia, ca. 1830. The set is comprised of 18 small, rectangular cakes of embossed watercolor paint, labeled and housed within a wooden box with a sliding lid. The box is primarily divided into two sections; the upper portion consists of three rows (with wooden dividers) of 6 cakes each of paint; the lower portion is meant to hold brushes, and bears a paper label which reads: "George W. Osborne, Superfine American Water Colour Manufacturer, Philadelphia, Begs leave to recommend his Colours to Artists and Amateurs, as being fully equal to the best imported. They may be had singly or in boxes of all sizes, Wholesale and Retail, of [?]. B. Smith & W. Hodgson, R. Apothecaries, Chemists, and Druggists, North East corner of Arch and 6th streets." Below this, also printed on the label, is an endorsement for these paints from The Franklin Institute of the State of Pennsylvania, dated May 27th, 1826. Also included are two small paintbrushes made of quills, and a small piece of charcoal with Chinese writing on it. Title supplied by cataloger.

    One boxed watercolor paint set, untitled, manufactured by Winsor & Newton Limited, London, England, ca. 1880? The set is comprised of 12 rectangular cakes of watercolor paint, two porcelain 3-welled dishes, a cut glass dish, a bone brush rest, two small, round dishes, a wooden stick, one piece of charcoal, and several pieces of chalk. The set is housed in a handsome wooden box that has hidden compartments, a pin-locked bottom drawer, and a hinged lid. Mounted to the underside of the lid is a maroon and gold label which reads "Winsor & Newton Limited, London" within a crown-like border. The text within the frame reads: "Artists' Colourmen by Special Appointment to Her Majesty and Their Royal Highnesses, The Prince and Princess of Wales. 38 Rathbone Place." Each of the cakes of paint are embossed, some with an image of a crown and some with a mythological iconographic figure. This same figure is at the center of the label on the underside of the lid, as well as on an additional label within the box. Some of the cakes of paint are wrapped in foil and paper wrappers bearing Winsor & Newton's name. Title supplied by cataloger.

The set is comprised of 9 small, rectangular cakes of watercolor paint, 2 very small stone dishes, a color portrait of a lady, and a piece of glass the same size. Each of the cakes of paint are embossed with an image of a crown. The set is housed within a paperboard box. The lid is illustrated with a color image of a rectangular wooden palette, the title, and spots of color.

    One boxed set of watercolor paints entitled Pretty Pets Paint Box, manufacturer unknown, ca. 1895. The set is comprised of 28 cakes of watercolor paint, two small porcelain dishes, one paintbrush, a piece of glass, and a 5-inch paper ruler. The cakes of paint are embossed with an artist's palette design, and are contained within wooden dividers in a wooden box (no lid). This box is housed within a paperboard box (which does have a lid). Mounted onto the paperboard lid is a chromolithograph image of three girls, each painting a toy elephant. "2.00" (price) is written in ms., in pencil, in the upper right-hand corner of the image on the lid.

    One boxed set of watercolor paints entitled Our Children's Favorite Paint Box, manufacturer unknown, ca. 1895. The set is comprised of 18 cakes of watercolor paint, two porcelain dishes, and two thin sticks of charcoal. The paints are contained within wooden dividers, and are embossed with an image of an eagle. The set is housed within a wooden box with a sliding lid. A chromolithograph with labeled scenes of monuments and buildings in various American cities is mounted to the lid. One of the images is labeled "Chicago-Exhibition 1893." "Made in Germany" is printed on the image as well.
