One boxed set of watercolor paints entitled Fine Art Colour Box, manufacturer unknown, ca. 1890. The set is comprised of 18 rectangular cakes of watercolor paint, two large(er) and two small porcelain dishes, and two sticks of charcoal. Each of the cakes of paint is embossed with an image of an eagle. The set is housed within a wooden box with a sliding lid. A chromolithograph of an easel, a palette, and a table holding books and instruments is mounted to the lid. "Made in Germany" is printed below the title on this lid image. One of the cakes of paint has "SEPIE" embossed on it, and two of the cakes of paint are missing. The cakes of paint are affixed to the bottom of the box, and are contained within wooden dividers.

The set is comprised of 40 rectangular, embossed cakes of watercolor paint, two round porcelain dishes, two paint brushes, and two embossed cakes of charcoal. The set is housed within a wooden box with a sliding lid. The paints are divided into 5 rows of 8 each, and each cake of paint is embossed with an image of a family crest. The lid is not labeled; a label is affixed, however, to the bottom of the paint brush compartment.

One boxed set of watercolor paints entitled Pretty Pets Paint Box, manufacturer unknown, ca. 1895. The set is comprised of 28 cakes of watercolor paint, two small porcelain dishes, one paintbrush, a piece of glass, and a 5-inch paper ruler. The cakes of paint are embossed with an artist's palette design, and are contained within wooden dividers in a wooden box (no lid). This box is housed within a paperboard box (which does have a lid). Mounted onto the paperboard lid is a chromolithograph image of three girls, each painting a toy elephant. "2.00" (price) is written in ms., in pencil, in the upper right-hand corner of the image on the lid.

The set is comprised of several small cakes of watercolor paint, one small, round porcelain dish, and two quill paint brushes. The set is housed within a wooden box with a sliding lid. The box is divided into two halves lengthwise by a wooden divider onto which a paper label identifying each color is barely discernible. This box is similar to sets 5 and 10 in Box Number 75. The set is comprised of 18 cakes of watercolor paint, two porcelain dishes, and two thin sticks of charcoal. The paints are contained within wooden dividers, and are embossed with an image of an eagle. The set is housed within a wooden box with a sliding lid. A chromolithograph with labeled scenes of monuments and buildings in various American cities is mounted to the lid. One of the images is labeled "Chicago-Exhibition 1893." "Made in Germany" is printed on the image as well.

One boxed watercolor paint set, untitled, manufactured by Winsor & Newton Limited, London, England, ca. 1880? The set is comprised of 12 rectangular cakes of watercolor paint, two porcelain 3-welled dishes, a cut glass dish, a bone brush rest, two small, round dishes, a wooden stick, one piece of charcoal, and several pieces of chalk. The set is housed in a handsome wooden box that has hidden compartments, a pin-locked bottom drawer, and a hinged lid. Mounted to the underside of the lid is a maroon and gold label which reads "Winsor & Newton Limited, London" within a crown-like border. The text within the frame reads: "Artists' Colourmen by Special Appointment to Her Majesty and Their Royal Highnesses, The Prince and Princess of Wales. 38 Rathbone Place." Each of the cakes of paint are embossed, some with an image of a crown and some with a mythological iconographic figure. This same figure is at the center of the label on the underside of the lid, as well as on an additional label within the box. Some of the cakes of paint are wrapped in foil and paper wrappers bearing Winsor & Newton's name. Title supplied by cataloger.
