    A full-length studio portrait of Union Major Peter Schlick of the 22nd Colored Infantry Regiment, turned slightly to the left. Schlick has a thin mustache and a goatee growing from only the bottom of his chin that reaches his lapels. Schlick is resting his left forearm on the back of a wooden chair with floral patterned cushions. "Finley & Sons ; Photographers ; Main Street, Canandaigua, N.Y." is stamped in black on the verso. There is a green, three cent stamp with a portrait of George Washington on the verso.

There is a curtain in the background on the right. "From the Larkin Gallery, S.E. cor. 8th & Arch Sts. ; Philadelphia." printed in black on verso.
