Description
A three-quarters length seated studio portrait of Union First Lieutenant Charles W. Dodge of the 22nd Colored Infantry Regiment, turned partially to the right. Dodge is clean-shaven, holding his sword across his lap, resting on his right hand, and holding his gloves on his thigh in his left hand. "J E. McClees, artist, 910 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia" is stamped in black on the verso.

    A full-length studio portrait of an unidentified African American Union soldier from the 22nd Colored Infantry Regiment, turned slightly to the right. The soldier has a holster at his left hip, is holding a pistol in his right hand by his thigh, and is wearing gloves and a cap. The chevrons in his uniform sleeves seem to indicate that is is a First Sergeant. A stamp on the verso reads "Lochman & Bretz, artists, Newville, Cumberland Co., Pa. ; Negatives preserved"
