Barney & Berry's genuine New York club and American rink skates

Image of an advertisement for ice skates by retailer Barney & Berry. The central image depicted within the decorative title is of a large silver ice-skate. The gold-foiled title and ice-skate are enclosed around an ornately decorated and bejeweled red championship belt. The belt reads, "Champion Skates of America," and is locked with a key that reads, "July 23d. 1867." Below the belt are images of cascading ice that stream down towards two vignettes, one on the left of the print and one on the right. Image on the left is titled, "Interior of Skating Rink, Hervey & Johnsons Patent," and includes an image of people ice-skating underneath an architectural dome. Probable date based on history of when Muncie Skates were manufactured and advertised. Thad A. Neely patented the Muncie roller skate model in 1882. Advertisements appear on Newspapers.com from 1883 for the Muncie adjustable skate. Printer, J.M.W. Jones was active from 1867-1905. "We Use the Muncie Skate of Muncie, Ind." --text, top of print. "Grand Roller Skating Assemblies." --text, bottom of print. "Lith. by the J.M.W. Jones S&P. Chicago." --text, center, bottom of margin.
