Microfilm of five diaries kept by James Lovett Bunting between 1857 and 1920. The first half of the first volume is dated 1857-1858 and begins while Bunting was living in England. He writes of reading about the Mormon War in the newspaper, sailing to the United States, his arrival in New York, and traveling overland to Utah. The second half of the volume skips to 1866 and covers Bunting's life in Utah through 1874, including the Sanpete Expedition, the 1873 Southern Expedition, and the completion of a telegraph line, as well as containing some genealogy. The second volume, identified as Volume "A," begins while Bunting was living in Kanab in 1878 and covers the beginning of his British mission in the same year. The third volume, begun at Liverpool and dated 1879-1881, describes Bunting's British mission through 1880, his travels back to Utah on the Union Pacific Railroad, and his life in Kanab to 1881. The fourth volume is dated Kanab 1882, and records Bunting's daily activities, including working in a shoe shop, agricultural and irrigation work, and attending meetings. The fifth volume begins in 1905 and describes Bunting's life in Kanab sporadically through 1920.

Microfilm of the diary of James L. Bunting, covering the years 1892-1898. The majority of the diary focuses on Bunting's daily life in and around Kanab, Utah, including church activities, visiting his children and grandchildren, teaching and attending Sunday school, and noting local news. He specifically describes going to Fredonia as a missionary with Taylor Crosby, attending the Democratic Convention at Orderville and the 1892 Presidential election (he writes that J.L. Rawlins' election to Congress was a "terrible damper" to Utah), a long account of the death of his wife Harriet Dye Bunting, including a brief biography of her (1893), attending the dedication of the Salt Lake Temple (1893), his brief genealogical mission to England (1893), going to St. George for jury duty (1894), and working in the St. George Temple (1897).

Diary of Harriet Dye Bunting [microform] : 1889

Microfilm of a diary kept by Harriet Bunting at Kanab, Utah, in 1889. The first line of the diary states that "I ... am impressed to make a brief memorandum of my acts toward Emily Nash, and her conduct toward me." Emily Nash had come to live with the Bunting family following the death of her grandmother in 1889, and she and Harriet seem to have gotten along well. The majority of the diary entries chronicle Harriet's daily life, such as attending church conferences and Sunday school, holding choir practices, doing housework such as washing clothes and sewing, and attending to ill neighbors. The cover of the diary is identified as James L. Bunting diary, 1883, and also contains a few brief entries from 1885 made by either James or Harriet. The remainder of the diary was kept by Harriet.

Microfilm of the diary of Daniel H. McAllister, kept from 1876-1877 while he was traveling between Utah and Arizona. The volume opens with a brief autobiography, including McAllister's decision to travel to Arizona in 1876. He records in detail his journey from Salt Lake City to Pima County. Once in Arizona his entries focus on daily activities such as digging ditches, cutting timber, agricultural work, and attending meetings. Later entries also cover his 1877 visit to Utah, including stops in Salt Lake City and St. George.

Diaries of Elias H. Blackburn [microform] : 1849-1862 1900-1908

Microfilm of the diaries of Elias H. Blackburn dated 1849-1862 and 1900-1908. The first diary, dated 1849-1857, opens while Blackburn was living in Provo and recalls his daily activities there as bishop. The second volume, dated 1857-1859, contains similar content. The third, fourth, and fifth volumes cover Blackburn's British mission from 1859-1862, as well as his return voyage to New York and traveling back to Utah. The diaries then skip to 1900, when Blackburn was serving as bishop in Loa, Utah. The remaining diaries, dated 1901-1908, cover his life in Loa including giving out patriarchal blessings, attending meetings and conferences, and administering to the sick in the course of his work as a healer. The volumes dated 1849-1902 are on the first reel of microfilm, while those dated 1903-1908 are on the second reel.
