Holm, 1844. 1 sheet. [see p.]."Alternate title on sellers label on case. Numersous MS notes, especially on Vatnajökull, Iceland's largest glacier, and the air to the northeast of it. Note identifies a volcano under the glacier and gives its approximate longitude and latitude. More MS notes on the west coast in Breidhafjórdhur and near Reykjavík. This map less heavily annotated than RB 623698. Burton was hired by Alfred Lock to travel to Iceland to evaluate sulfur mines which he had purchased from the Danish government; Burton traveled there from June 4th to September 5th 1872, but on his return Lock refused to pay him. This turned into a protracted legal battle, and Burton returned to Iceland in 1875 to gather information in aid of his case. MS notes: In Burton's hand on volcano.. Prime meridian: Ferro.
