Kashnor notes, "Locates Nieuw Netherland Territory, with Nieu Amsterdam on Manhattan, and Hellegat, also Nieu Plimouth and Briston in Nieu England." McCorkle gives 1635 date, suggests that Lake Iricoisiensis is confusion between Lake Champlain and Lake Winnepessaukee. Map was first published in 1635, and the Dutch text on the verso, along with the signature, indicate the same date (Van der Krogt, map 9310:2; Burden, map 241). Blaeu's version of the famous Virginia map. According to Burden, Blaeu purchased the plate for this map from Hondius's widow shortly after Hondius's death in 1629; the map first appeared in Blaeu's atlases in 1630 (Burden, entry 193). Date and publisher based on language and signature on verso, following Van der Krogt and Burden. In the vacant spaces on the continent are coloured figures of buffaloes, wild horses, bears, rabbits, &c. , whilst the ocean is adorned with three-masted ships, whales and walruses. California in named "Insula California," with the following note; 'California a prioribus geographis semper habita fuit quaedam pars continentis, et capta per Hollandos ab Hispanis tabula quaedam geographica compertum est insulam eße et continere ubi latissima est 500 leucas. A Cap. Mendocino verousque ad C.S. Lucae repertum est testibus tabula praedicta et Francisco Gaulo extendi in longitudinem 1700 leucarum.'
