Description: Kashnor notes, "coast-lines and boundaries colored, with the large inset view of Niagara Falls, with the beavers at work, 8 engravings of the 'Representation of ye most Remarkable Customs of ye Natives of America,' and ' A View of a Stage and also ye manner of fishing for Curing and Drying of Cod at Newfoundland,' a good copy of a scarce map. Shows California as an Island, and continues the coast to the supposed Strait of Anian. There is a note that California was considered by former geographers to be part of the Continent, but a map taken by the Dutch from the Spaniards shows it to be an island. A few years before this Del Isle had shown California as part of the Continent from the discoveries of Father Kino." Kashnor dates as c.1727. Elaborate cartouches. Sub map of Arctic Region. California is still an island and there is a river which is in the locality of the Columbia." Map includes famous fish drying vignette, and is known as the "Cod Fish" map. McLaughlin dates as 1719.
