    100 + items. Letters and memo. LAT opposition to Yorty's reelection in 1969 was a major issue that year, including many threatened cancellations (see below). Subjects and well-known correspondents include:LAT orders 10 articles by James Simon Kunen (author of The Strawberry Statement) from Sterling Lord Agency; Williams' answer to Mrs. Madigan, (6/3/1969) who had criticized LAT coverage of Mayor Yorty, is typical of many such letters--"When Sam Yorty was first elected...executives of The Times...informed him we would support him when we believed he was right and oppose him when we believed he was wrong," and W. also stated that this is the obligation of a newspaper; letter to J. Edward Murray of The Arizona Republic; letter to Edmund Dooley, Editor at San Francisco Chronicle;letter to Reuters (6/4/1969) praising their coverage but trying to get them to lower their price for LAT; letter of 6/6/1969 to a Mr. James mentioning various LAT endorsements over recent years and going into some detail on support for Barry Goldwater, Sr., in 1964 Pres. race; Rudy Vallee is once again offering to write a regular column for LAT; letter to Edward Kuhn, Jr., Exec. VP and Publisher, The World Publishing Co.; letter explaining LAT coverage of Israeli-Arab rift; letter to James F. Chambers, Jr. Publisher, Dallas Times Herald; letters to U. S. Senator George Murphy; editorial expansion (and costs); letter to Herbert Bruckner, Stanford Professional Journalism Fellowships; a 2-pp. memo to Dick Robinson on "the coffee situation in editorial"; etc.
