Much of the material here deals with complaints about Paul Conrad cartoons and reaction to them. Most of the protests came from supporters of Israel who believed LAT's coverage and Conrad's cartoons were biased in favor of the Palestinians in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

    John Birch Society - Editorial Background

    Approx. 90 items. In a 2 pp. cover letter, related to submission of a series of articles and a front page editorial (1961) on the John Birch Society, Williams refers to the doctrines of the Birch Society as "shallow fanaticism," and "a subversive attack upon the spirit as well as the Constitution." Other items include: a tally of reader responses to The Times' stand; various communications from those on both sides of the JBS question; complaints and subscription cancellation letters; bulletin of JBS for November 1964, titled "Now Will You Join the John Birch Society?" In this time frame, reader reaction to the newspaper's stance on JBS showed opposition to be slightly in the majority.

    Dewitt Carter Reddick Award and Jesse H. Jones Communication Center Naming Address

    Three copies of a speech given by Otis Chandler at the University of Texas at Austin, when he received the Dewitt Carter Reddick Award and for the naming of the communication complex, the "Jesse H. Jones Communication Center,"on April 30, 1982. Other items in this folder included a program of the event; a copy of Comm Council Communicator newsletter; a press release; a full edition of the On Campus newspaper and a clipping from it; two memos and twelve letters.

    Approx. 40 items. Subjects include: moral values in motion pictures & indecency in advertising; "the red-neck tradition" in Southern politics (in letter to E. Etheridge, June 1969); the deal to reprint articles from The Economist; an opinion survey published in Editor & Publisher rating opinion writers, including LAT's, on ideology; Williams reaction to American Center for Education's (previously mentioned) survey alleged that 18% of LAT columnist were "radical liberal" and another 32% were "extreme liberal; etc.

The Methodology sheet paired with the German Reunification poll refers to it as the "two hundred and eleventh" poll in the series, whereas the Folder title uses "206."
