2 items: 18-pp. transcript of "a taping on (1/4/1973) with Mrs. May Goodan," daughter of Harry Chandler - subjects include: Harry Chandler's arrival in L.A. in 1883 ; HC living in a tent in Cahuenga Pass (living outdoors was considered healthy for tuberculosis sufferers) ; HC picked fruit for the Van Nuys family, and became friendly with them ; HC's view that water would be vital to growth of S. California ; HC interest in L.A. harbor development (pp. 5) ; dealings with William Randolph Hearst (pp. 6 - 7) ; giant ranch in Baja Calif. ; May has a riding accident (pp. 11) ; her memories of the 1910 bombing (pp. 12) ; Herbert Hoover asks HC "will you support me for president?" and is told "of course" ; HC and his wife did not enjoy big social events ; May answers Bassett's question "was your father a tough man?" (pp. 15) ; May attends Stanford (pp. 16) ; Bassett asks if the extended Chandler family thought (as of 1973) that Los Angeles Times had become too liberal. Also in the folder is a single sheet of "Notes during conversation with May Goodan," 1/4/1976, mentions places of residence, childhood activities and why HC was not in the Times building on the night of the bombing in 1910.
