    Approx. 110 items. Bassett corresponded with UCLA, University of the West Indies, the Jewish Federation-Council of Greater Los Angeles, County. Supervisor Warren Dorn, The Greater Los Angeles Press Club, etc. Also many personal notes, including more relating to the novel and film based on Harm's Way ; set of notes typed on 7 sheets from a small notepad, may have been for a speech on the subject of governing California and/or Los Angeles, n.d. ; 2-pp. memo from Nick Williams to Bill Thomas, Bassett and others on the subject "State Department Seminar visit."

    6 items: program booklet, "The Pulitzer Prizes - 75th Anniversary Celebration (9/22/1991)...Columbia University..." ; stapled packet (approx. 35 sheets), headed "Category X Criticism," with article copies from various newspapers being submitted for Pulitzer consideration ; list of names, addresses and phone numbers of "The Pulitzer Prize Board" as of 3/19/1991 ; correspondence involving David Laventhol (Times Mirror), Russell Baker (N.Y. Times), Meg Greenfield (Washington Post) and others.

    Approximately 80 items. A number of pieces of correspondence show that Bassett continued his book reviewing for Broadcast Music Inc. Several items show that persons unacquainted, or only slightly acquainted with Bassett sought advice or job referrals from him. There are copies of letters addressed to Sen. Thomas Kuchel and Vice Pres. Nixon. Correspondence also shows that B. kept in touch with Navy friends and associates. On the occasion of a 1957 promotion, B. received congratulatory letters from public relations and business firms, including AT&SF Railroad and Ice Capades Intl., and media outlets including United Press Associations and the San Diego Union, and one Superior Court Judge, Stanley Mosk, and Caspar Weinberger (Calif. Assembly), etc. The remainder are various private and business communications. William P. Rogers letter removed from Autograph File and returned to Bassett files.

Times look riles staffers"; article copy, Among Ourselves, 1/1966, "Greater readability - Times to introduce 6-column format on all clear pages"; tear sheet, newspaper?, scribbled date appears to be from 1941 or 1947, "[LAT] Has best front page, finest type display, is university finding"; LAT article copy, 10/23/1886, "The Times in its new dress" (on new typeface and new machinery); LAT tear sheet, 7/7/1980, (ad) headed "Times Change"; copy of Pg. 1 Masthead for 2/22/1914.
