    Approximately 12 items. There is a 7-page typed review of Washington Irving's (Knickerbocker's) History of New York, which Bassett submitted as a radio script to Broadcast Music , Inc. (NY). Various business and personal letters are in the folder. There is a "Citation of Meritorious Service" that was awarded to Bassett by the American Legion "in recognition of his outstanding reporting for the Los Angeles Mirror..."

Continued association with Broadcast Music Inc., (program was "The Book Parade").Copy of Times-Mirror "Executive Incentive Plan" in folder.

    Approximately 80 items. A number of pieces of correspondence show that Bassett continued his book reviewing for Broadcast Music Inc. Several items show that persons unacquainted, or only slightly acquainted with Bassett sought advice or job referrals from him. There are copies of letters addressed to Sen. Thomas Kuchel and Vice Pres. Nixon. Correspondence also shows that B. kept in touch with Navy friends and associates. On the occasion of a 1957 promotion, B. received congratulatory letters from public relations and business firms, including AT&SF Railroad and Ice Capades Intl., and media outlets including United Press Associations and the San Diego Union, and one Superior Court Judge, Stanley Mosk, and Caspar Weinberger (Calif. Assembly), etc. The remainder are various private and business communications. William P. Rogers letter removed from Autograph File and returned to Bassett files.

    Yorty, Sam - 1961 Mayoral Campaign

    3 items. One multi-page copy of Yorty-George Putnam interview broadcast on May 26, 1961. Putnam refers to it as a "half-hour interrogation"--it is more like a Yorty campaign ad. Also two very similar broadcast texts from May 30,1061, which Putnam opens by stating: "tonight you will hear the facts about Sam Yorty and why he deserves your support and vote on Wednesday."

    "Approx. 70 items. Includes list of 1971 articles by B. (same list in folder titled "1971 Articles." The folder includes a report to Bill Thomas from B. titled "Japan Really Won the War," and an article on the British justice system pulled from Catholic Digest of Jan. 1972. Among the prominent persons Bassett corresponded with are a Adm. B.A. Clarey, U.S. Navy, Gov. Edmund G. Brown, August Sebastiani and Sam J. Sebastiani [of Sebastiani Vineyards], U.S. Rep. Bob Wilson, Robert S. Elegant [journalist & author], Herbert Klein [Nixon Dir. of Comm.], Roger Howell [of Bowdoin College], etc. "

Folder includes letters from Bassett to many persons who contributed information or aided him in locating information related to the writing of his book on the history of the Times. Among his correspondents: Bill Stout, Rep. Alphonzo Bell, Nick Williams, Justice Earl Warren (ret.), (Sen.) William Knowland, Frank Capra, John Goldman, Leonard Wibberly, Otis Chandler, Tom Snyder (KNBC), Jonathan Kirsch, Edmund G. Brown, Warren Christopher, Richard Nixon, Herb Klein, etc. Split into two folders. Original Stephen Longstreet letter removed from Autograph File and returned to Bassett files.
