Much autograph material by Nixon, some news clippings, and primarily, correspondence between Nixon and Bassett, who were close friends. Correspondence also includes letters from RMN's secretary, signed photos of Nixon, map of a route he took during a worldwide trip, etc. Much of it dates to his time as a Congressman and Vice-President. Considerable discussion of changes needed in Republican party, issues related to international travel and journalism. There are a number of memos and letters from Nixon during the 1960 presidential campaign, outlining strategy, and commenting on prominent persons or situations of that time. There are letters from Henry Cabot Lodge (sent with related strategy material), to Billy Graham, and to Bassett asking for advice on how to express the "opposition party viewpoint" during a 1961 speaking tour. Richard Nixon letter dated December 28, 1954 removed from Autograph File and returned to Bassett files.

Approximately 30 items. Includes typed and handwritten correspondence, some business-related, some personal. Some letters and telegrams related to the Republican National Convention in Chicago in 1952. Letters from Bassett to the editors of the S.F. Chronicle and Sacramento Bee. Many congratulatory letters from around the country regarding Bassett's writing for the Times. Estes Kefauver letter removed from Autograph File and returned to Bassett files.

Attached to most of them are comments by Nick Williams and/or Bassett. Also included are some clippings from the editorial pages of LAT. Approximately 80 items. A number of pieces of correspondence show that Bassett continued his book reviewing for Broadcast Music Inc. Several items show that persons unacquainted, or only slightly acquainted with Bassett sought advice or job referrals from him. There are copies of letters addressed to Sen. Thomas Kuchel and Vice Pres. Nixon. Correspondence also shows that B. kept in touch with Navy friends and associates. On the occasion of a 1957 promotion, B. received congratulatory letters from public relations and business firms, including AT&SF Railroad and Ice Capades Intl., and media outlets including United Press Associations and the San Diego Union, and one Superior Court Judge, Stanley Mosk, and Caspar Weinberger (Calif. Assembly), etc. The remainder are various private and business communications. William P. Rogers letter removed from Autograph File and returned to Bassett files.

Folder includes letters from Bassett to many persons who contributed information or aided him in locating information related to the writing of his book on the history of the Times. Among his correspondents: Bill Stout, Rep. Alphonzo Bell, Nick Williams, Justice Earl Warren (ret.), (Sen.) William Knowland, Frank Capra, John Goldman, Leonard Wibberly, Otis Chandler, Tom Snyder (KNBC), Jonathan Kirsch, Edmund G. Brown, Warren Christopher, Richard Nixon, Herb Klein, etc. Split into two folders. Original Stephen Longstreet letter removed from Autograph File and returned to Bassett files.
