Notable items: 21-pp. report, "In-school programs of American newspapers and a suggested approach for the Los Angeles Times," 3/1/1960 ; 8-pp. report, "Los Angeles Times School Program" (1960) ; 12-pp. issue of Times Mirror Progress, 5/1972, article on pp. 11 on Educational Services Department, headed by Abe Kotin ; issue of The Student Outlook (with "Teachers Only" insert) for 5/22/1973 ; 14-pp. transcript of "Taping with Abe Kotin, Director of Times Education Services," 10/23/1975.

    Approx. 15 items. During this time frame, LAT initiated a program of providing a publication titled Student Outlook to area high school students. It was a brief digest of news and current events. It was later proposed to expand this program into the elementary schools (5th and 6th grades). Other materials in the file include teacher evaluations of Student Outlook, and annual reports on LAT's Educational Services Dept. There is one memo (Gordon Phillips, 1964) on the Times Scholarship Program.

Also in this folder is a memo from Abe Kotin to Dan Moore, to inform him of his impression of Otis Chandler's visit; three pieces of correspondence between Otis Chandler and different representatives of Denoyer-Geppert Company, to Abe Kotin, Editor of Student Outlook at the Los Angeles Times, regarding an upcoming meeting, material for the presentation and a response thank you letter from Otis Chandler in regards to their assistance offer.
