Correspondence - Nixon, Richard
Manuscripts
Much autograph material by Nixon, some news clippings, and primarily, correspondence between Nixon and Bassett, who were close friends. Correspondence also includes letters from RMN's secretary, signed photos of Nixon, map of a route he took during a worldwide trip, etc. Much of it dates to his time as a Congressman and Vice-President. Considerable discussion of changes needed in Republican party, issues related to international travel and journalism. There are a number of memos and letters from Nixon during the 1960 presidential campaign, outlining strategy, and commenting on prominent persons or situations of that time. There are letters from Henry Cabot Lodge (sent with related strategy material), to Billy Graham, and to Bassett asking for advice on how to express the "opposition party viewpoint" during a 1961 speaking tour. Richard Nixon letter dated December 28, 1954 removed from Autograph File and returned to Bassett files.
