Approx. 20 items: LAT, 5/19/1926, report of evalgelist Aimee Semple McPherson disappearing off Venice Beach, headline "...M'Pherson believed bathing victim," and her later reappearance and evidence that she may have been in a love tryst with an unemployed radio station operator, Kenneth Ormiston. After McPherson resurfaced, 6/23/1926, claiming abduction (a ransom letter had been delivered to Angeles Temple, Aimee's headquarters), she and her mother are subpoenaed to appear before the Grand Jury. In 9/1926. complaints including corruption of public morals, obstruction of justice and conspiracy were brought against McPherson, her alleged paramour, and others. The convoluted case moves through the legal system, but in 1/1927, it is dismissed as it was believed it would be impossible to convict. Also notable: excerpts from a 1959 book, The Vanishing Evangelist, by Robert Steele and Lately Thomas ; complete issue of Journal of the West , 4/1988, incl. "West of Eden...Pioneer media evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson in Los Angeles," pp. 50-59.

The manuscript, written by Sherwood, covers the history of the Los Angeles International Airport, from the initial $12,500 airport bond issue presented by LA Mayor Fletcher Bowron in 1945 to the airport as it stood in 1979. Sherwood talks about the history of aviation and passenger air travel in California, the choice for the location of the airport, and the difficulties overcome in its construction. Also included are several black and white photographs as well as a blueprint: "Ultimate Boundaries of the Los Angeles Airport" (1945, March). Sherwood also talks about various airlines coming to the new airport. The scrapbook contains 70 pages of newspaper clippings all related to the airport bond issue of 1945.

The theatre in Los Angeles

The manuscript, which Alfred Jensen wrote for the Los Angeles Federal Theatre Project, covers the history of theater in the United States and more specifically in Los Angeles. The manuscript includes an appendix listing plays that were performed in Los Angeles, the theater in which they were performed, the opening dates, and duration of the plays. In his history of the theater Jensen specifically talks about the following early American playwrights: William Dunlap, John Howard Payne, John Augustus Stone, Mercy Otis Warren, Hugh H. Brackenridge, and Royall Tyler. Jensen also covers the early history of movies and some of its actors including John Barrymore as well as the development of the Federal Theatre Project.
