This typescript is a copy made by Juanita Brooks in September of 1938 from a typewritten copy loaned to M. Wilford Poulson of Brigham Young University. The first section is a sketch of the life of Kezia Giles Carroll written by her daughter Emma Seegmiller Higbee. It serves as a biography and covers her conversion to Mormonism in England, describes her voyage from England to Utah, and speaks of her life in Heber City and at Orderville

This typescript copy was made for the Harold B. Lee Library "from a typewritten copy loaned to Prof. M. Wilford Poulson of Brigham Young University by Mrs. William Brooks of St. George, Utah. September, 1938." It was originally copied from the handwritten manuscripts by Tony Tillohash which were owned by Ambrose M. Cannon of the Shivwit Indian Reservation in Washington County, Utah. It was loaned by him to the copyist for the Utah State Historical Records Survey Project of the Works Progress Administration of Saint George, Utah. Additional portions of the typescript were obtained by Foster Charles Toab, who also resided on the reservation.

This is a typescript copy of a biographical sketch of Mary Elizabeth Rollins Lightner written by her granddaughter Elsie E. Barrett. Barrett covers her grandmother's life from her early childhood to her settlement in Minersville, Utah in 1863. It describes Lightner's early conversion to Mormonism, which in 1830 came at an early stage in the development of the religion. The subjects covered include persecutions, frontier and pioneer life, and the Haun's Mill Massacre (Mo.), 1838. People discussed in the typescript include Joseph Smith (1805-1844) and Heber Chase Kimball (1801-1868)

Brief biographical sketch of Hans Hansen (1862-1953) by his daughter, Gertrude Hansen Standage. Traces significant events in Hansen's life, including the early death of his mother and his upbringing by his grandmother, with whom he sold vegetables to make a living; his 1879 move to Arizona with his father; his 1885 marriage to Loretta Ellsworth in St. Geroge, Utah; and his 1902-1904 Mormon mission to Denmark. Also includes an account of Hansen avoiding hostile Indians to deliver a letter to Fort Apache and a brief description of Standage's grandparents, the Ellsworths (parents of Loretta Ellsworth).

Biographical sketch of George Orin Pitkin

Brief biography of George Orin Pitkin, which also gives accounts of Joseph Smith and Joseph Grafton Hovey. The biography opens with an account of Pitkin's father George White Pitkin, the family's move from Vermont to Ohio sometime before 1829, and George White Pitkin's conversion to the Mormon Church in 1831. It continues with the birth of George Orin Pitkin in 1837, the family's move from Far West to Pike County, Illinois, and finally Nauvoo in 1839, their journey to Utah in 1848, George White Pitkin's polygamy, the Pitkins' settlement of Millville in 1860, the battle of Battle Creek, and daily life in Utah.

This typescript was collected and copied by Austin E. and Alta Fife from a typescript loaned to the Utah Humanities Research Foundation by Charles Martin Harris of Logan, Utah, on June 19, 1946. It covers the Harris family history, including their emigration to the United States, their activities in early America, Martin Harris' involvement with Joseph Smith (1805-1844) and the Mormon Church, and Emer Harris' reading of the first published copy of the Book of Mormon and his subsequent conversion.
