    Parliament and the new model army miscellaneous documents and letters

    A collection of miscellaneous documents and letters concerning Parliament and the New Model Army. The collection includes: a Parliamentary document addressed to a committee in Bedfordshire regarding the administration of collecting men and money for the Army (HM 82611); a receipt for provisions of coats, etc., for the pressed men in Reading (HM 82612); a letter from Oliver [Leeks?] to Noble Sir (HM 82613); instructions for impressing men for the Army for Sir Thomas Fairfax; and a copy of Charles I's 1626 speech to Parliament, followed by a speech of the Lord Keeper (HM 82615).

    Sir David Wilkie letters

    The collection contains a series of letters written by Wilkie to his friend and fellow artist, Abraham Raimbach. Raimbach was an engraver and produced several etchings of Wilkie's paintings. Some letters in the collection refer to the men's collaborative artistic endeavors while others discuss art of the period more generally. Subjects addressed within the letters include the work of Wilkie and Raimbach and the artistic scene of the period. Individuals mentioned in the letters include: John Russell, 6th Duke of Bedford; Sir Francis Chantrey; Francis Engleheart; Benjamin Robert Haydon; Sir Thomas Lawrence; Francis Graham Moon; John Romney; George Granville Leveson-Gower, 1st Duke of Sutherland; Joseph Mallord William Turner; and Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington.

    Herbert Hoover letters

    Eleven typed letters written and signed by Herbert Hoover and one letter written to Hoover by an unidentified correspondent. Hoover wrote the letters in various capacities, including as President of the United States and as Secretary of Commerce. The letters concern a range of topics, including mining; Georgius Agricola's De Re Metallica; a conference on radio held in 1925; and municipal planning. The correspondence also includes responses to speaking invitations and greetings.
