The Catalogue is a typescript (some pages are carbon copies), with annotations and additions in various hands. It is divided into the following sections: Introductory Note (p. i-iv), Medieval Books (p. 1-87), Medieval Books Addenda (2 p.), Modern Books (p. 1-32), The Non Historical Publications of the Manchester University Press (p. 1-6), Titles Not Listed in Tout Catalog & Supplementary List (p. 1-7). Catalogue is in a cloth-covered "Instantaneous Binder," with some damage to the spine.

Manuscripts

A Jesuit educational manuscript combining extensive treatises on rhetoric and geography with a shorter consideration of physiognomy. Though anonymous, a colophon describes the work as having been translated (or transcribed) from his "Eruditissimo Preoeceptore Gardemeau." It is closely written in a single, minute, but neat hand, and contains engraved frontispieces to the three parts depicting Christ, Saint Joseph and Saint Agnes; each frontispiece has the imprint of Parisian engraver and printseller Jacques Honervogt, as well as one unsigned plate depicting the Annunciation. The short treatise on physiognomy outlines the principles of the science of understanding the soul through the physical features of the face. "De Sphaera articiali" includes descriptions and maps of the continents, Asia, Africa and the Americas, while a stub suggests the map of Europe has been removed. The volume has very minor worming to the lower portions of a few leaves and some damage to the spine; covers are contemporary yellow tawed sheep with partially intact ties, with a later paper spine label.

Leigh family papers

The collections consists of 53 letters, poems and other manuscripts written by various members of the Leigh family and other people in their circle. The letters are mainly concerned with the intimate, mundane, playful and tragic aspects of family life from the early modern period until the middle of the 19th century. There is also a small number of poems, written by or copied out by family members, a Hymn, a speech, and a travel account. The collection also contains the 19th century volume, titled in gild on spine "Original Family Papers &c. Vol. 1. MSS." Letters and other material purchased by the Huntington Library Collectors' Council have been removed from the volume by the Huntington Library Conservation Department. An unknown number of letters were removed from the volume prior to the Huntington Library purchase.

An autograph volume of unpublished classroom lectures of the obstetrician Antoine Petit. The volume contains lists of titles, indexes, and sections on the health and anatomy of women; common issues related to pregnancy; pre and post-natal care for women and babies; common illnesses in newborn babies; abortion; and medical recipes. The volume also includes a section on the famous Scottish obstetrician William Smellie. The volume is bound in full contemporary calf with gilt florets and remains of title-label on spine; covers are loose with some damage and a quantity of blank leaves was removed at the end of the volume. There is a contemporary ownership inscription of "Joannes Mathaeus Garot, Parmacopole (?)" on the inside front cover, with some indications that the book passed through the hands of several different students.

A register covering April 1702 - April 1704, containing copies of dispatches, orders, sailing instructions, correspondence, etc. between the Admiralty and Captain Christopher Myngs while the latter was in command of, successively, the "St. Michael," "Victory," and "Lancaster." The register contains entries written in several hands; with 316 pages followed by 1 blank page then reversed and beginning at the other end of the volume for 11 pages (there are a few additional blank pages throughout the volume). With the bookplate of Sir Thomas Miller, [5th] Baronet on inside front cover. Please note the volume is in fragile condition: the spine and boards are loose and damaged with additional damage to the leather covers; an unknown number of pages are missing from the beginning and end of the volume.
