Thomas Kearny letters

The majority of these letters are between Thomas Kearny and Leslie E. Bliss, Librarian of the Henry E. Huntington Library. These letters are about Kearny's book on Philip Kearny and Stephen Watts Kearny and possible manuscript material at the Huntington that Kearny should see. Kearny also talks about Robert E. Lee, John Charles Frémont, Allan Nevins, and Commodore Robert F. Stockton. There also two letters by Huntington employee Norma B. Cuthbert to Leslie E. Bliss and fellow employee Reginald B. Haselden regarding Thomas Kearny's research.

Visual Materials

An album of about 200 photographs, 1942 to 1949, compiled by a former Huntington Library employee, Jeannette Carolyn Wilson, containing many snapshots of employees at the library and elsewhere. Subjects include: people standing outside the library; the tea room; aviary building; oak trees; employees playing cards and socializing; staff Christmas parties; snow on the grounds in January, 1949; women with cameras, taking photographs; and library staff loading books to be shipped offsite for safekeeping during World War II. The album also has some personal vacation photographs, a few clippings about the Huntington, and three letters from reference librarian Mary Isabel Fry, some with news of the Huntington. Wilson probably took many of the photographs, and possibly appears in the album. Though most people are unidentified, some recognizable library employees are: Carey Bliss, Leslie Bliss, Lyle H. Wright, Margaret Meracle, Robert Glass Cleland, Mary Isabel Fry, William Parish, Graydon Spalding, and Erwin F. Morkisch.

Manuscripts

Self-published family memoir and history compiled by Harriet Williams Myers in 1945. Focuses on biographies of Myers and her brothers Henry Smith Williams and Edward Huntington Williams, including anecdotes about their childhoods and a compilation of their later accomplishments. Includes the text of an articles on birds by Henry Williams, the text of various songs and poems meaningful to the family, and the text of obituaries for Henry and Edward Williams. Also includes several printed illustrations, some original photographs of members of the Williams family, and a letter from the author explaining her reasons for writing the book, dated January 1945.
