    A signed, autograph manuscript; the preface was written in Glengyle, Perthshire, Scotland. The manuscipt subtitle: With comments in verse from various Oriental Sources -- as made by Indian Mussulman. The manuscript contains ninety-nine names of Allah written in Arabic in red ink; there is one color drawing in the volume and a painting in oil on the cover.

Included are: 1) Copy of the Provisional regulations fro the colonists, 1624, Mar. 28; 2) Instructions for Willem Verhulst. 1625, Jan.; 3) Futher instructions for Willem Verhulst and the Council of New Netherland, 1625, Apr. 22; 4) Spectial instructions for Cryn Fredericksz and for the Director and Council, regarding the building of the fort and the houses. 1625, Apr. 22, and 5) Letter from Isaack de Raisere to the Directors of the Amsterdam Chamber of the West India Company. 1626, Sept. 23..

    James St. Aubyn journal of a tour in France, Switzerland, and Italy

    A nice example of a Grand Tour journal, written throughout in a clear sloping hand, commencing on June 22, 1819. In his journal, St. Aubyn describes his four-month journey through France, Switzerland, and Italy, and his return to England. In black ink, with later printed b/w illustrations loosely inserted. Original green boards, rebacked with green paper spine. Boards a little rubbed, but generally well-preserved.

    Charles Steward journal of the East India Company ship Duchess of Athol

    A ship's logbook written by Second Officer Charles Steward, recording the first voyage of the ship Duchess of Athol from England to Canton (Guangzhou), China. Entries run from 26 November 1821 to 24 May 1823. Contents include a crew list, passenger lists, weather reports, navigational records, and details of activities at port in India and China. With heraldic bookplate of Charles Steward. The volume is accompanied by three newspaper clippings, glued on paper, about the murder of Charles Steward, 1844 and 1845. The volume is partially blank.

    Christopher Myngs' register of copies of dispatches, orders, sailing instructions, correspondence, etc. between the Admiralty and Myngs

    A register covering April 1702 - April 1704, containing copies of dispatches, orders, sailing instructions, correspondence, etc. between the Admiralty and Captain Christopher Myngs while the latter was in command of, successively, the "St. Michael," "Victory," and "Lancaster." The register contains entries written in several hands; with 316 pages followed by 1 blank page then reversed and beginning at the other end of the volume for 11 pages (there are a few additional blank pages throughout the volume). With the bookplate of Sir Thomas Miller, [5th] Baronet on inside front cover. Please note the volume is in fragile condition: the spine and boards are loose and damaged with additional damage to the leather covers; an unknown number of pages are missing from the beginning and end of the volume.

    Ledger includes daily journal of working a lemon grove and payments made to laborers, with notations for "Chinaman's" wages; personal expenses such as groceries, entertainment, books, washing etc. Many pages are blank.
