Da fang guang fu huayan jing juan 45
Rare Books
Fascicle 45 of the Huayan jing was printed during the Song dynasty in 1085. This particular edition was part of the Great Canon of the Ten-Thousand-Fold Longevity of the Chongning Reign Period 崇寧萬寿大藏經, commonly known as Chongning zang 崇寧藏. The canon was commissioned by the Dongchan si 東禪寺 (Dongchan Temple) in Fuzhou, Fujian Province. Most notably, Chongning zang was the third printed tripitaka in Chinese history (at least eight canons were printed during the Song, Jin, and Yuan dynasty) and the first privately commissioned Chinese Buddhist canon. This set was also the first Buddhist canon printed in Southern China, far away from the Song capital, Kaifeng. The project was started by Chongzhen 沖真, abbot at the Dongchan Temple, in 1080 and concluded in 1105. A total of 6,108 fascicles were printed using woodblocks. The Chongning zang was the first Chinese Buddhist canon bound in folded accordion style album, rather than as a scroll in the previous two editions.
