Description: Collection of California pictorial letter sheets, chiefly lithographic, depicting life in California during the Gold Rush. Illustrations include views and maps of San Francisco, Sacramento, towns in the mining regions, and current news events (fires, shipwrecks, earthquakes, hangings, etc.). Most have descriptive text, a few have text only. California artists, lithographers, publishers and engravers represented include: T. Armstrong, G.H. Baker, T.C. Boyd, H. Eastman, G.H. Goddard, C. Image contains seven vignettes depicting various stages in the coining of money. One vignette is an exterior view of the Branch Mint. The sheet is torn on the right side, and the vignettes on the right are missing portions. It also appears that the sheet was cut along the top and bottom.
