THIS LAND IS...
Kitchen Garden
Join urban farming leader Jamiah Hargins of Crop Swap L.A. and Carola Di Poi, head gardener of The Huntington’s Ranch and Kitchen Gardens, to engage with questions inspired by THIS LAND IS … and discuss food justice, community empowerment, and urban farming in a dynamic program designed in collaboration with Zócalo Public Square. An intimate garden dinner follows, where guests will be given conversation prompts inspired by Hargins’ work on hyperlocal solutions to transform food deserts and spark community connections.
Founded in Los Angeles in 2003, Zócalo Public Square combines public programs and journalism to examine essential questions in a broad-minded and accessible spirit. It syndicates its journalism to 290 media outlets worldwide and has hosted more than 750 events in 33 cities in the U.S. and beyond.
Co-presented by The Huntington and the Smithsonian Folklife Festival as part of a multiyear partnership with the Smithsonian Institution.
This project received funding from the Smithsonian’s Our Shared Future: 250, a Smithsonian-wide initiative supported by private philanthropy and created to commemorate the nation’s 250th anniversary and advance the Smithsonian’s vision for the next 250 years.
