THIS LAND IS...
Kitchen Garden
Experience the power of sharing a meal in community to celebrate the enduring brilliance of our region’s creative pioneers and engage with questions inspired by THIS LAND IS …. The evening will open at the site of Betye Saar’s transformative installation, Drifting Toward Twilight. Nearby, participants will experience an immersive, grounding sound bath in preparation for a rich dialogue and art workshop with Saar’s artist granddaughters, Maddy Inez and Sola Saar Agustsson. Participants will also enjoy a thoughtfully prepared meal that includes ancestral foods that serve as culinary connections to history, heritage, and regeneration.
LA Commons engages communities in the creation of public art that tells their unique stories and serves as the basis for dialogue, interaction, and a shared understanding of Los Angeles.
Co-presented by The Huntington and the Smithsonian Folklife Festival as part of a multiyear partnership with the Smithsonian Institution.
This project received funding from the Smithsonian’s Our Shared Future: 250, a Smithsonian-wide initiative supported by private philanthropy and created to commemorate the nation’s 250th anniversary and advance the Smithsonian’s vision for the next 250 years.
